Here Be Monsters – an upcoming sci-fi underwater survival thriller has found its director in Joachim Rønning! Hot on the heels of his upcoming film Tron: Ares which debuts in theaters October 10th, 2025, Rønning's next project will be helming the upcoming thriller which is being likened to a cross between Ridley Scott’s Alien and John Carpenter's The Thing.
According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures won an aggressive auction for film rights to the intellectual property:
Acquired in a competitive auction, Here Be Monsters becomes the latest big franchise-able IP to be acquired by the studio since Skydance took over. They asked to keep the content specifics under wraps, other than to call it an intense survival thriller at sea reminiscent of films like Alien and The Thing. The title offers a good idea of what’s in store for the boat passengers.
Ridley Scott and his Scott Free Productions company will produce the film, alongside Rønning, Michael Pruss and Rebecca Feurer. The screenplay has been written by Joachim and his brother Andreas Rønning.
A release date has yet to be decided.
