With news of Halo 5 Guardians and Halo: The Master Chief Collection still dominating the headlines, you would think 343 Industries have their hands full at the moment. But that does not seem to be the case…
A recent job listing for a Senior Producer was advertised stated “343 Industries is looking for a Senior Producer to help develop a new project line in the Halo universe”. The listing continued “This is your chance to work on one of the most exciting and creative intellectual properties in the industry with one of the industry’s most talented teams.”
With 343 industries also responsible for all the Halo products, which include the Novels and films, the article states that the successful candidate must “ensure the game hits the quality expected of a title within the Halo franchise” so there is no doubt that this is a game development position.
Unsurprisingly the position calls for the “current gen video game knowledge” which means the game will more than likely be solely for Xbox One, which would fit in perfectly with Microsoft’s plan to get everyone upgrading from their 360’s. Xbox One doesn’t have too much to offer in that department at the moment, but with a forcast of this, Halo 5 & the Master Chief collection? I can certainly see a lot of people changing their minds, and what better way to fill in the 2 – 3 year gap between the main Halo series.
Halo has already had its share of succesful spin-offs on the Xbox 360 with Halo: Reach, Halo 3:ODST, Halo Wars & Halo: Spartan Assault, with the latter two taking a new direction from the “first person shooter” we are used to with Halo.
But rather than a standalone game, the job listing mentions “Project line”, which makes you wonder will this be a whole new series? Maybe 343 want to alternate the projects, like we have seen over the last 6 years with the hugely successful Call of Duty and Modern Warfare series’.
Will the game bring back some characters from the earlier games? Will it be a prequel? Only time will tell and at this point with just the job listing to go by it would only be speculation, so hopefully as we draw closer to Halo 5’s release more news will come to light.
