For 52.4 billion dollars, the Walt Disney Company will acquire the entirety of 21st Century Fox--giving them access to big franchises such as Alien, X-Men, Planet of the Apes, The Simpsons, Avatar and far more. They will also acquire National Geographic, and a big portion of Hulu.
“The acquisition of this stellar collection of businesses from 21st Century Fox reflects the increasing consumer demand for a rich diversity of entertainment experiences that are more compelling, accessible and convenient than ever before,” Iger said in a statement Thursday morning. “We’re excited about this extraordinary opportunity to significantly increase our portfolio of well-loved franchises and branded content to greatly enhance our growing direct-to-consumer offerings.”
This buy could heavily influence the future of the Alien, Avatar, and Marvel franchises as a whole--for better or worse, we don't know. A guarantee, however, is the X-Men--along with Deadpool--will be coming to the MCU.
