Disney has had a very successful year due to their acquisition of Lucasfilm. 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' has already made over one billion dollars and is now on its way to two billion quite rapidly. This exponential success also may indicate that Disney may be looking to match that success in its other major property acquired in the purchase: Indiana Jones. Disney CEO Bob Iger recently sat down with Bloomberg for a half hour interview in which he talked about the success of Star Wars and how the company plans to expand the franchise.
Iger's exact comment was related to the expansion of their existing franchises. His quote directly followed comments about Star Wars sequels. He described Indiana Jones as a property which to quote him "which by the way will be coming". This is a very promising quote, and must be looked at in context.
As of now, the main players involved with bringing Indiana Jones back have all commented. Frank Marshall, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, and Kathleen Kennedy have all commented regarding either that Indiana Jones 5 is in the works or expressed desire to return. Now the only thing left perhaps is an official anouncement or title.
Indiana Jones 5 may still be in the planning phases. However, there is most likely news coming soon due to all the sound bites that have been dropped over the past year regarding a potential fifth movie.
