Recently 20th Century Fox's plans for the X-Men movie franchise have been making some rumblings with news of a possible TV series reported to be in development, in addition to the 2016 movie sequel, a Deapool spin off and possible X-Force movie. The news of a X-Men TV shows comes as no surprise with Fox currently enjoying the success of new comic book TV serial Gotham. No details have been confirmed as-of-yet as to the approach of which the X-Men TV serial will take, though EGP's Shawn Madden claims that the show will be an adaptation of the X-Factor comic line, likening the show as a "'Fringe in the X-Men world.'"
Another possibility could be a series called "Westchester", set within Charles Xavier's School (pictured above) with a mixed cast of youngsters, teens and adults, with the possibility of cameos from the stars of the movies. Regardless of whichever route Fox takes, the sheer size and scope of the X-Men franchise could perfectly lend itself to a long running, wide reaching TV serial that could explore some deep personal, racial and social storylines.
Though, Fox's current success with the X-Men movie franchise has come at a price with reports that not only has the Fantastic Four comic been cancelled ahead of the release of the new movie to be directed by Josh Trank, but also that Marvel executives have ordered their artists and writers to not create any new X-Men characters. Marvel writer Chris Claremount explains...
"I have to say quite honestly as I understand it now the X department is forbidden to create new characters. All because all new characters become the film property of Fox. There will be no X-Men merchandising for the foreseeable future because, why promote Fox material?"
