Once upon a time Marvel sold the production rights to some of their most beloved characters to a plethora of movie studios as each studio battled against the other in the rising trend of the superhero movie. Sony Pictures grabbed Spider-Man, Universal Pictures grabbed the Hulk and 20th Century Fox grabbed the X-Men (amongst others). With mixed results being generated by the movie studios Marvel Studios, formerly Marvel Fims, entered the fray with Paramount Pictures as distributor with the release of 2008's Iron Man, The first movie in their Marvel Cinematic Universe, which to-date emcompasses nine released movies, five short films and a TV serial (Marvels Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D.), with many more movies planned and in the pipeline.
Yet as long as Sony continue to produce Siper-Man related material, and 20th Century Fox continue to generate X-Men related movies, these franchises production rights will never revert back to Marvel Studios. Which is a huge shame for fans hoping to see Wolverine and Spider-Man appear in a future Avengers movie. Avengers: Age of Ultron, due in theaters May 1st 2015 has even opened the window, the possibility, of a possible multi-studio production with the inclusion of Quicksilver AKA Pietro Maximoff - twin bother to the Scarlet Witch AKA Wanda Maximoff, and son to the X-Mens arch nemesis Magneto. The character, played by Kick Ass and Godzilla star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, also appears in X-Men: Days of Future Past, portrayed by Evan Peters. The Scarlet Witch however will not appear in the X-men sequel due in theaters May 23rd 2014, with the only scene referencing her having been removed during editing, according to a interview in Empire with the films director Bryan Singer, who isunable to promote his forthcoming movie due to recent allegations.
"Is that the Scarlet Witch? No, that's his little sister. I even had a line which I cut, where Quicksilver's mother says to the little girl, 'Go up and bug your sister,' and the little girl says, 'She bugs me!' You never see the older sister, but it was to imply that there is an older sister for comic book fans. I ended up cutting it."
"Even though our Quicksilver is not a main character like in The Avengers, it's a character there's a lot of thought and concern about and it's a character I'd like to explore further in the sequel."
Meanwhile, the first in presumably a series of character-centric TV spots have been released to promote X-Men: Days of Future Past...
