Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim may not have been as successful as Legendary Pictures may have hoped it would be, especially after investing approximately $200 million, but the movie, as risky as it was did recuperate its production budget, make a small profit, and amass a small cult following. Pacific Rim was also one of the first movies in the current wave of Kaiju movies such as Godzilla and the forthcoming Kong: Skull Island. Despite Pacific Rim being del Toro's most commercially successful movie to date development of a sequel has hit many delays and was almost canceled altogether, but thankfully the sequel is now back on track with Steven S. DeKnight directing and del Toro producing.
In addition to the original movie's unique selection of Jaegers Pacific Rim featured a wealth of antagonistic Kaiju each more powerful than the one before. These towering beasts of war were unlike anything indigenous to Earth, their thick hides making humankind's conventional weaponry obsolete. Through a transdimensional rift deep in the pacific ocean came many varieties of these "Kaiju" (Strange Beast) appeared including Knifehead, Leatherback, Otachi and Slattern, but what Kaiju can we expect to see in Pacific Rim: Uprising.
One of the best sources available to fans speculating on the look of the Kaiju for the sequel is the concept art and design showcase "Man, Machines, and Monsters", which is filled with concept art of the movies Kaiju and of other Kaiju that weren't chosen for the first movie, but may be reconsidered for the forthcoming sequel...
There is also a wide selection of Kaiju concept art made by fans that can be found on sites such as Pinterest and Deviant Art, including these two awesome designs by DeviantArt user Naome and Blogger Wasurah.
