Warner Brothers are currently scouting for a Black Director to helm their upcoming new Superman movie which will introduce movie-going audiences to a Black Superman for the first time on-screen. The new film is currently being written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and will be produced by J.J. Abrams!
This is the latest initiative by Warner Brothers to add diversity and inclusiveness to their DC properties. But, contrary to some feedback online, this is not just some random flipping of the script where they plan to convert Clark Kent into a Black man, no, back in 2008 comic book writer Grant Morrison and artist Doug Mahnke created a character named Calvin Ellis, he was Black and president of the United States, who also doubles as the Man of Steel! This new character was introduced him in the Final Crisis storyline.
Who will play the new Black Superman? Of that we currently we do not know, however rumors are circulating that Michael B. Jordan could potentially be in the running, however no confirmations have yet been made by official sources.
The story is expected to be separate to that of the Snyderverse which includes Man of Steel, Justice League and the like - taking place in a completely alternate reality with all new characters.
Release dates and additional cast information is also, still unknown but as we learn more we'll be sure to keep you updated!
