Pacific Rim featured some pretty insanely designed monsters known as Kaiju. From Knifehead to Slattern, each one had a unique look and personality. From the mind of Guillermo del Toro and his creative team, many concepts were brought forth but sadly not all could have been created on-screen. Some went to be the antagonist for the spin-off comic series and others remained as nothing more than epic concepts on sheets of paper. Below is one such concept which would've looked pretty sweet on the big screen - it has no name, but its filename read InsectoKaiju and it was created by Carlos Salgado. Each Kaiju in Pacific Rim aimed to emulate different animals already present on Earth, so it makes sense that one of them would emulate an insect. After all, nothing quite looks as alien as an insect. Check it out:
Hopefully we can see an insect-like Kaiju in the sequel, currently dubbed Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.
Pacific Rim is severely underrated in in Hollywood. It's one of the only new franchises to have spawned over the past 10 years which hasn't piggy-backed on other films as a reboot, prequel or sequel. Not to mention, Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro created such an expansive world, Pacific Rim could turn into a mega-hit franchise, if it's given the attention it deserves at its new home with Universal Studios and we hope they realize that. Universal recently delayed the release of Pacific Rim: Maelstrom to give the production crew enough time to perfect the story, but since Guillermo del Toro announced that the script and budget for the film had been submitted, we have yet to hear official word on a greenlight. Time will tell...
