The 50th Anniversary series, Ultraman Orb, only has four episodes left, but the adventures of Kurenai Gai, aka, Ultraman Orb, are far from over. In the upcoming prequel series, Ultraman Orb: The Origin Saga, Hideo Ishiguro will reprise his role as the title Ultra warrior. The story will recount his fallout with friend-turned-rival, Jugglus Juggler. (Takaya Aoyagi will return in as Juggler.)
For those turned off by the toy-centric mandates that have plagued Kiyotaka Taguchi's Ultraman Orb, the Amazon Prime exclusive series is said to be more mature, appealing to adults as well as children. Ultraman Orb: The Origin Saga will be directed by Kazuya Konaka, who directed 2004's highly acclaimed Ultraman: The Next, and Hideki Oda. (Ultraman Saga [2012]) Head writer Hirotoshi Kobayashi (Ultraman X [2015]) will pair with anime screenwriting veteran Soutarou Hayashi.
The first episode of the 12-part series will debut on Japan's Amazon Prime Video streaming service, December 26th, 2016. An international release is planned with English and German subtitles already in the works.
