Due to a complex and headache inducing legal history Ultraman has been painfully sparse in the west. Officially, Ultra Q, Ultraman, UltraSeven, Ultraman Tiga and the film Ultraman Tiga & Dyna & Gaia: Battle in Hyperspace are the only North American Ultra releases. It is with great joy I deliver the news that the list has grown. 2005's Ultraman Max will broadcast on Crunchyroll's streaming service in North America!*
In the midst of an alien invasion, Toma Kaito's bravery is noticed by Ultraman Max who gives him the ability to wield the Ultra powers. Captain Hijikata of the elite task force DASH (Defensive Action Squad Heroes) also takes note of Tomo's bravery and recruits him. Together, Ultraman Max and DASH defend the planet from violent monsters. Later, Max finds himself inexplicably caught in a civil war that could change everything.
Ultraman Max features episodes from legendary Japanese directors Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, 13 Assassins), Shusuke Kaneko (The Gamera Trilogy, Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack) and the late Akio Jissoji (Ultraman, Tokyo: The Last Megaloplis). In addition it features episodes by tokusatsu regular Takeshi Yagi (Ultraman Nexus) and Kenji Suzuki (special effects director of Godzilla 2000 & Godzilla vs. Megaguirus).
Ultraman Max will begin streaming on Crunchyroll October 14th.
