Global media conglomerate Turner has obtained exclusive broadcasting rights for the Star Wars movies from Disney. This includes both the original and prequel trilogies (rights to A New Hope were granted in a separate deal with 20th Century Fox), The Force Awakens, Rogue One and the other upcoming films. Turner will hold the rights for the next several years, and will first screen The Phantom Menace on September 20.
No specific numbers were given as to how much the deal cost, although it is believed to have been within the area of $200 million, making it possibly the biggest film to commercial-supported television contract of all time.
