A few months back is was reported that Paramount Pictures would employ Akiva Goldsman and Michael Bay to overlook a team of writers that would pen a series of sequels and spin off movies to further explore the grand mythology of the Transformers universe onto the big screen. While some that reported this news may have called the studio for jumping on the shared universe bandwagon started by Marvel Studios, it does have to be remembered that since its inception as a toyline in 1984, Hasbro's Transformers has since evolved into a multigenerational franchise, with many variations, themes, storylines and characters.

Now comes news from EW that Goldsman and Bay have amassed their dream team of writers which is reported to include - Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead; Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, the screenwriting team who worked on 2008's Iron ManFringe co-showrunner Jeff Pinkner; and Zak Penn, whose long history with superhero movies includes credits on X-Men 2X-Men 3The Incredible Hulk, and The Avengers.

With such a powerful writing team, led by oscar Winner Goldsman and a franchise as rich as the Transformers universe, maybe, just maybe the Transformers movies will start to steer away from mindless, popcorn selling action and explosions and become somewhat more thought provoking as well as entertaining. And lets hope they finally give us Rodimus (AKA Hot Rod).
