Although Marvel Studio's Captain America: Civil War made more actual money, Twentieth Century Fox's Deadpool recuperated its $58 million production budget and amazing 12 times over, which is quite a feat when considering the movie's R-rating and the fact that the movie wasn't released in China. So successful was Deadpool that it has inspired a string of R-rated superhero movies of which next years Logan will be the first.
Since the release of Deadpool, there has been much speculation by fans, and much rallying by actual actors over the casting of Cable, Deadpool's time traveling companion from the comic books, with actors such as Stephen Lang, Dolph Lundgren, and Ron Perlman being the most prominent. It appears that Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool wanted Kyle Chandler (Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, The Wolf of Wall Street - pictured below) for the role. Reportedly this has led to creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds whom allegedly wants someone else as his co-star, coercing the director to leave the movie.
Although Miller's departure is said to be amicable, with Deadpool 2 still slated for a 2018 release the sequel is now down a director and still has the role of Cable uncast. One possibility we suggest Fox could consider is that of Pacific Rim creator and director Guillermo del Toro as director, with Ron Perlman as Cable. Not only do the director and actor come as a package, del Toro has proven his worth having directed superhero movies with Hellboy and Hellboy II as well as Blade II.
