Terminator franchise terminated as sequel is removed from 2017 schedule!

Today has seen many movie studios rearrange their planned release schedules for 2017, with the biggest news so far being that Star Wars Episode VIII will now be released during the holiday season with a December 15th release, which is unsurprisingly considering the overwhelming performance seen from last months The Force Awakens.

In another unsurprising move, after the lukewarm reception Terminator Genisys garnered last summer, Deadline are reporting that its sequel, which had been planned for release May 19th 2017, has been removed from Paramount Pictures release schedule and has been replaced with the Baywatch movie, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Genisys' new cast did little to inspire confidence in eyes of hardcore fans.

This follows recent news that Paramount and Skydance Productions were reassessing their once-elaborate plans for a trilogy and spin-off TV serial after the franchise-reset pulled in under budget at the US box office. Though the producers had ascertained they where still moving forward with the franchise THR have since reported that all plans to continue the Terminator universe are on indefinite hold, which is now confirmed by the movies removal from the 2017 schedule.

As CBR points out Terminator Genisys pulled in a total of $440 million worldwide. When considering the movies $155 million budget, with its marketing, distribution and merhandise costs the movie only made a profit of approximately $200 million, which is comparable to the performance of the previous two instalments Terminator Salvation and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. The last Terminator movie which proved to be financially successful was 1991's Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which earned nearly $520 million against a $94 million budget.
