Star Wars has always been known for its weird and wonderful creatures, and if a report from the site Making Star Wars is to be believed, Episode VIII will be no exception.
According to them, the planet Ahch-To, which we briefly glimpsed at the end of The Force Awakens, is inhabited by a race of small, sentient avian creatures which resemble the puffins found in the real world filming location of Skellig Michael. Unlike real birds however, they'll have razor sharp teeth, so they'll be both cute and terrifying.
These strange creatures are only around 15 inches tall and are also said to somewhat resemble the famous Furby toys that were so big back in the late '90s. They see Skywalker as the protector of the islands, whilst Rey was not given their permission to be there. Apparently there's a scene where she fights a sea monster, which may be their way of testing her to see if she's worthy of inhabiting their world.
Best of all, this currently unnamed alien species will be created via practical effects, with the cast and crew apparently being overjoyed by the puppets on the set. Guess we'll have to wait until the film opens on December 15, 2017 to see them for ourselves.
