Someone seriously needs to reboot Dino Crisis!

Thrilling, engaging, scary and challenging. Dino Crisis is easily one of the most memorable and enjoyable games to have ever graced the Play Station 1. As a child growing up, this game had me shook to the core, anxious at every turn, wondering if a Velociraptor was going to jump at me through a fence or if a Tyrannosaurus Rex was going to burst its head through a window while I'm silently minding my own business in a random office. This game had it all - the right aesthetic, creepy music, suspenseful atmosphere and a legitimately challenging gameplay which kept you engaged constantly. Not to mention, it also had DINOSAURS! With so many classic properties being given the reboot treatment lately, why have we not seen a proper, next gen reboot of this iconic title?

For a little history lesson, Dino Crisis was produced by Capcom and created by Shinji Mikami. It was a survival horror game which placed players on a remote island where Dinosaurs had appeared following a disastrous science experiment. The first game released in 1999 and spawned two not-so-stellar sequels in 2000 and 2003.

Earlier this year Resident Evil 7 producer Masachika Kawata expressed interest in a Dino Crisis reboot, but admitted that rights holders Capcom did not share that enthusiasm... yet:

If you were to create Dino Crisis with modern gaming technology it would be a really exciting prospect, but there’s not currently any conversations happening at Capcom, that I’m aware of.

It's clear the dormant franchise still carries some heavy nostalgia factor for those of us who grew up playing this game over and over. Factor in the addition of film reboots such as Jurassic World and even Godzilla and Pacific Rim - all similar genres which echo the themes present in Dino Crisis. It would seem science fiction is once again taking center stage within the entertainment industry, so now would be the ideal moment to revisit such an iconic title, whether for a game reboot or even a theatrical adaptation.

If Capcom are ever to consider it however, the Dino Crisis reboot would need to hold true to the original and bring back all the scares and suspenseful moments which made the first game so terrifying. Perhaps Creative Assembly, the developers behind Alien Isolation could try their hand at developing it - we know they're capable of producing a game which truly terrifies you.
