For those of you who have not yet seen Solo: A Star Wars Story, click away from this article as we will be discussing a spoiler concerning a major cameo appearance from the end of the film! For those of you who have seen Solo and might be a tad confused by the film's final cameo appearance, this article will help address the confusion and explain its relevance.
Okay - with that warning out of the way, let's get into it!
At the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story, we are shown a hologram communication by Darth Maul - the Sith apprentice who fell at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi at the end of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. We learn that since his encounter with the Jedi on Naboo, Maul survived being cut in half and eventually went on to become the leader of the Crimson Dawn Criminal Syndicate, which is shown in Solo. Fans who watched The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series (both of which are canon according to Disney) will be familiar with Maul's continued legacy throughout the franchise. But for those who may not watch the shows, this should help provide clarity for Maul's cameo.
Maul's life beyond Episode I was also well documented in comics, which also gave way to Maul hunting down Kenobi on Tatooine for revenge.
This side-story may be explored in a future Obi-Wan spin-off film as well if one gets greenlit. Referencing Maul in Solo would lead us to believe so anyways.
The following video breaks down the history of Maul beyond The Phantom Menace in a bit more detail, give it a watch:
What did you think when you saw Maul appear in the hologram? Would you like to see more of Maul's story explored in an anthology film like Solo and the upcoming Boba Fett movie? Let us know in the comments!
