Scotty AKA Simon Pegg To Co-Write Star Trek 3!

British comedian, actor, writer and producer Simon Pegg will not only return as Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the forthcoming sequel to 2012's Star Trek Into Darkness, but it has been reported that Pegg will also write the script for the movie along with co-writer Doug Jung (Dark Blue).

A life long fan of science fiction, Pegg is best known for his comedic roles and creations, chiefly among them being his works with friend, co-writer and co-star Nick Frost (Doctor Who: Last Christmas) in movies such as Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Run Fatboy Run and Paul. Peggs inclusion as a co-writer will no doubt add more Trek lore and more comedy to the movies narrtive, though it is highly doubtful that he will abuse the position to grant himself more screen time.

While the old Star Treks felt like the misadventures of three old men (Kirk, Spock and McCoy) the newly rebooted Star Trek benefits from a mix of elaborate action set pieces and the comedic dynamics between the expansive lineup of main characters, portrayed by a talented oung and vibrant cast of upcoming stars. Star Trek once became stagnated, mostly due to the overly political and overtly polictically correct TV serials heavy with techno-babble, but thanks to the 2009 reboot and its sequel the franchise is once again fun, cool and no longer hindered by the crippling Trekkie culture that plagued the franchise.
