The Terminator - 1984
James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger were launched to the stars when “The Terminator” was released in 1984. The latter played a cyborg assassin who came back in time from 2029 to 1984 to kill a woman whose son would prevent machines from ruling the world in the post-apocalyptic future. He faces bountiful hurdles throughout the journey. The end of the movie usually leaves everyone speechless.
Back to the Future - 1985
Have you ever thought of the possibility to interact with your parents back when they had been teenagers? Probably not, but "Back to the Future" does just that. It begins in the present, but brings the main character, starred by Michael J. Fox, 30 years back (from 1985 to 1955). He wears his regular 1985 clothing and becomes weird in the eyes of people. It was just one of the running gags which showed the extent to which the whole town has changed in such a short time frame. He then meets his own parents, who are teenagers themselves at the time, to find out that his mom has kind of a crush on him. The boy is in for many more surprises but we won’t discover them all for those who have not seen the movie yet.
Star Trek: First Contact - 1986
First Contact cleared the way for the “Next Generation” movies as the maiden big-budget adventure of the kind. Being the first, it is the most memorable of the eight “Star Trek” movies. The whole “Star Trek” concept is based on dialogue and ideas rather than on super effects and action. If you are into learning about the differences between humans and aliens or the way in which artificial intelligence is about to change our lives, you will no doubts be thrilled with each of eight editions.
The Matrix - 1999
A cyberpunk film that allowed the viewers to experience science fiction elements from the human perspective had a major influence on the culture. Its stylistic innovations, such as the digital rain the Matrix’s code was composed of, are still remembered although the film made a debut in the previous millennium. Keanu Reeves controls the computer and does what he loves to do (hacking), but only to reveal the world he lives in is entirely false. He discovers the whole of humanity is a victim of an artificial intelligence system. He is chosen to open "The Matrix" and return people to freedom, but will he beat the robots?
Minority Report - 2002
What would happen if we had a chance to predict human crimes before they are committed? This science-fiction thriller, starring Tom Cruise, will give you the answer. Cruise plays John Anderton, a detective of police’s special department capable of arresting the killers even before they commit crimes. The principle is based on the visions of three “precogs” who make no mistakes in their predictions. Nevertheless, Cruise suddenly finds himself in an unpleasant situation finding out that he has been identified as the future murderer of a human he has never met before. He becomes fugitive, kidnaps one of three precogs, and tries to resolve the problem without consequences. It is tough to match Steven Spielberg at his most thrilling.
Inception - 2010
Christopher Nolan has always experimented with time, but “Inception” is without doubts his most complete storytelling tally in regards to time. Leonardo Di Caprio plays a thief with the power to enter into someone's dream. He thus stole ideas and gained information even the most advanced hackers had no access to. However, his weapon soon proved to have weak parts and Di Caprio suddenly lost everything before being invited to one final mission. Will he get the job done? Fabulous acting from the likes of Leonardo Di Caprio, Tom Hardy, and Ken Watanabe (among others) adds to the extraordinariness of this mind-blending story.
