It has been almost four years since we were last on board the Red Dwarf. 2012's series X proved to be a welcome return to form for the British science fiction comedy series with crewmates Dave Lister, Arnold Rimmer, Kryten and the Cat somehow managing to find themselves in a new set of hilarious hi-jinks on their three million year mission to return to Earth. With the tenth series gaining critical acclaim that British TV broadcaster Dave, show co-creator Doug Naylor and the cast have been busy filming twelve all- new episodes, which will make up the shows eleventh and twelve series'. Read season XI's official synopsis beneath the shows all new logo...

Red Dwarf XI, the eleventh series of the legendary sci-fi comedy, reunites the original cast of Chris Barrie (Rimmer), Craig Charles (Lister), Danny John-Jules (Cat) and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten) along with a host of guest stars for a brand new series recorded in front of a live studio audience at Pinewood Studios. The series is written and directed by Red Dwarf co-creator,Doug Naylor, and produced by Richard Naylor and Kerry Waddell forBaby Cow Productions & Grant Naylor Productions.

The show's six episode run sees two of the Dwarfers' dreams come true: Rimmer accidentally saves the life of a Space Corps Captain and is promoted to Officer, while Cat takes time off from being in love with himself to fall in love with a female Cat with a secret. Meantime, Lister wakes up to discover a deranged droid has stolen some of his body parts and Kryten has a mid-life crisis and considers leaving the Dwarfers for a younger crew. The posse also find themselves in an alternative America where modern technology is outlawed, making both Kryten and Rimmer illegal.

With big laughs and dazzling effects, Red Dwarf XI recaptures the show's golden age.

Since principal photography wrapped for series twelve back in March, the cast and crew of Red Dwarf have been busy filming the show's visual effects. To keep the show looking fresh the shows visual effect team has created all new models of both Starbug and Red Dwarf, with the latter model being described as a "bigature" - a version of the original miniature that has been increased in scale three times over and is intended for close up shots of the vessels exterior.

It has been revealed that the first episode of the all-new eleventh series will be called "Twentica", which fans are speculating may be the episode mentioned in the series synopsis (above) in which the crew is featured in an alternate America where modern technology has been banned.

While details on the series other episodes and the episodes of the twelveth series are being kept under wraps UKTV (of which Dave is a subsidiary) have released two images (included below) of the cast as hype for the show's return begins to build...

As advertised in most of the included images (courtesy of the Official Red Dwarf website), Red Dwarf will return exclusively to British TV channel Dave next month with the twelveth series expected to air in 2017.
