A new kaiju film titled Howl from Beyond the Fog has been released! The film recently premiered in front of a limited audience at the Atami Kaiju Film Festival in Japan.
With the film, director Daisuke Sato offers a fresh and nostalgic entry into the kaiju genre. Nebula, the main creature from the film, is a man-in-suit kaiju that pays homage to classic giant monsters. Additionally, the film sets itself apart by its use of puppets for the human roles. This unique take offers a fascinating and delightful visual experience.
The film is loosely based on the 1951 short story "The Fog Horn" by Ray Bradbury. While many fans may not be familiar with this work, they have likely heard of the film that it helped to lay the groundwork for... The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms.
Renowned monster maker Keizo Murase is also playing a major part in the making of the titular monster Nebula. Murase is known for crafting numerous legendary kaiju, including several different Godzilla suits, the original Gamera and Gyaos, Mothra imago 1961, Kong 1962, King Ghidorah 1964, and Titanosaurus just to name a few. Thanks in part to him, the film looks to be a must-see work for anyone who wants to witness an incredible kaiju suit in action.
