In three months time one of Marvel Studios riskiest movies will hit theatres. Ant-Man was developed for Marvel Studios by British duo Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish. After producing test footage and a viable script it seemed as though the movie was ready to enter production until the news broke that Edgar Wright had left the movie as its director due to creative differences. Edgar Wright had intended for the movie to be standalone project, set within but non-reliant upon the MCU. Marvel Studios however wanted the movie to play an integral part within the MCU, while not requiring its audience to have already watched the movies that make up the MCU. Essentially Marvel Studios wanted Ant-Man to be a backdoor into the MCU, whereas Edgar Wright just wanted to make a superhero movie without the worry of tying it into the MCU.
Thankfully Paul Rudd, who had been chosen by Wright to star as the movies hero not only remained on the project but assisted with the rewriting of the script, ensuring the core ideas Wright had brought to the project remained intact. Then, once Peyton Reed was hired as the new director and the cast was put at ease that the project was back on track production started. Unfortunately this hiccup in production was made quite public thanks to social media platforms, and as such support from the fans has wavered with many fans and critics worrying the movie will underperform or even flop. Yet it seems as though Marvel Studios are quietly confident in the movie and its premise, much as they were with James Gunns Guardians of the Galaxy, last years breakaway blockbuster, which before its release was generating the same levels of trepidation among fans and critics.
