The world has gone Marvel mad. Thanks to the latest series of movies based on the original comics, Marvel characters have become household names. As all of the characters have a human element despite their incredible superpowers, many have speculated what they are like when they aren't busy saving the world from destruction. This theme even got picked up in the latest Avengers movie in the series, (Avengers: Age of Ultron) when the gang kicked back and enjoyed a few drinks, with each character having a go at lifting Thor's hammer, Mjölnir. This got many picturing other real-life scenarios that the characters could find themselves in, inspiring everything from endless mundane memes to gambling guides for each avenger.
As all Marvel fans know, each character in the series has their own specific set of skills, i.e. Hawkeye is a fantastic archer with lightning reflexes, whereas Tony Stark is hyper-intelligent with a knack for fixing things. So what happens when there are no more bad guys left to fight and the gang need to find alternative employment?
Bruce Banner / The Hulk – construction
Scientist Bruce Banner is an intelligent, sophisticated guy with great ethics. The Hulk however, well, we know about him. Bruce would have the brain power and good people skills to project manage a large building site with his maths and science skills coming into play when problems occur. Instead of hiring a crane to do the heavy lifting however, the Hulk could come out to play and shift 10 tonnes of cement of with easy. The other side of the coin is demolition; get the Hulk upset and he'll have the building down quicker and safer than any dynamite.
Captain America – Special Forces agent / museum tour guide
Steve Rogers is the all guns blazing hero. Frozen in ice since World War 2, he is the ultimate soldier, making him the perfect guy for counter-terrorism and hostage situations. However, he'll soon be the only person alive who remembers the 1930s and 40s. He could make a great living museum exhibit, regaling the times where he defeated Hydra almost single handedly, but couldn't buy sugar in the shops or have lights on at night.
Thor – weatherman
When he isn't battling his evil brother Loki, Thor could be the world's most accurate weather man. It would be pretty much thunder and lightning all the time, but at least he wouldn't have a Michael Fish moment. Other potential roles include carnival side game operator (yes, the one where you hit the thing with the hammer) or someone who nails together incredibly large pieces of wood.
Iron Man – mechanic / stand-up comedian
The first one is quite obvious and Tony Stark pretty much does that for a living, except with billion-dollar exoskeletons as opposed to battered Nissan Micras. His terribly dry wit, ability to upset anyone and his resilience to really terrible action movie one-liners make him perfect for comedy. The terrible heart condition might make big crowds a bit more difficult however.
Hawkeye – Olympic archer
This one is too obvious, but what else can he do? See really far? We have telescopes for that.
Black widow – Trapeze artist / counsellor
Apart from the incredible balance, reflexes, fighting skills and sheer athleticism that make Natasha the ideal candidate for the circus, she can also calm down 10,000 pounds of angry green monster with a bit of hand stroking. Imagine the magic she could work on a 50 year old bank manager from Leicester with anger management issues?
Nick Fury – stay at home Dad
Organising a God, an arrogant billionaire, a headstrong WW2 super soldier and a gigantic green killing machine is no sweat for the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., so you can easily imagine him being able to convince an angry six year old that broccoli should be eaten. Also, the nigh-on indestructible car he has in Captain America: The Winter Soldier would be perfect for the school run.
