While it is good news that Spider-Man has finally returned, in part, to Marvel Studios, many fans are still waiting for a worthwhile adaptation of the web slingers arch nemesis and anti-hero Venom, especially since the popular characters gross mishandling in 2007's Spider-Man 3. Before Sony Pictures struck their amazing cross-studio picture deal with Marvel Studios the genral consensus was that Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2 writer and director Marc Webb was to develop both a sequel and at least two spin offs (among many reported others), a Sinister Six movie and a Venom movie. Rumor and speculation was that writing duo Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were to pen the Venom movie, with the latter reportedly in the running to direct the picture. Unfortunately these plans have fallen apart after the lacklustre critical and box office performance of the two Amazing Spider-Man movies, the splitting of the Orci/Kurtzman writing duo and of course the cross studio deal with Marvel Studios which has seen british actor Tom Holland cast in yet another reboot of the Spider-Man character that is to feature within Marvel Studios much celebrated Cinematic Universe.
Speaking with MTV news above director Webb talks openly about the new direction for the Spider-Man character under Sony and Marvel's, mentioning that had he remained at the helm of the franchise he would have, as already mentioned, brought the Sinister Six and Venom to the big screen.
