In 1965, Toho produced a non-Godzilla sci-fi film titled Frankenstein vs. Baragon, titled in America as Frankenstein Conquers the World. The opposing kaiju, Baragon, was a subterranian dinosaur that had managed to survive extinction. The two title characters met and fought, the match ending with Frankenstein snapping Baragon's neck and killing him.
But in 1968, Toho decided to have almost every one of their kaiju creations meet together in a battle that was meant to end the series. At the end of this classic film called Destroy All Monsters, the camera pans over each of the kaiju as they rest peacefully on Monster Island. But they suddenly show a glimpse at a suppsedly long-dead monster: it is Baragon, alive and well! Baragon was originally supposed to be featured throughout the film, but due to major damage to the suit, Toho could only show the ending nod to his existence.
In 2001, Toho produced a new Godzilla film called Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack!, also known as GMK. This film had Godzilla fight a series of monsters, and his first opponent was Baragon! After he held his own for a good while, Baragon was eventually defeated and killed by the new Godzilla. The film was a nice way to introduce new fans to Baragon, though he now lacked his fiery breath.
Frankenstein Conquers The World was released by Tokyo Shock on a sadly OOP two DVD set that had various special features and both the Japanese and American versions of the film. Destroy All Monsters has been released around 3 times on DVD and once on Blu-Ray, but sadly every release is OOP. GMK is currently available on DVD from Sony.
