Recent news suggested that co-writer of the 2009 reboot and last years Into Darkness, Roberto Orci was in contention to direct the third movie, of which he had co-wrote (with Patrick McKay and JD Payne) a screenplay for. This shocking news worried fans; especially when considering that Orci, whose recent writing "accolades" of the Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, has never directed before in any capacity. In august Orci, McKay and Payne's screenplay was handed to studio Paramount Pictures for consideration. Now, after four months BA Digest reports that the studio has rejected the screenplay, and Orci's aspirations to helm the movie.

For now, the USS Enterprise aint going anywhere any time soon!

The rejected screenplay allegedly featured the Enterprise competing against the Vulcans and a new alien race to acquire a time travel device, with the Vulcans intent on using the device to undo the destruction of their homeworld, as seen in the 2009 reboot. This screenplay was also rumored to allow for the return of William Shatner to the screen aongside his younger self - Chris Pine, similar to 1994's Star Trek Generations.

This will be good news for true Trek fans, allowing a better team of writers and an experienced director to fully utilize, for the first time, the possibilities of the altered timeline of this reboot series - possibly a very premature encounter with the Borg or Dominion, or a war between the Vulcans and Romulans?
