A lot of what is really going on in Star Wars: The Force Awakens is being kept secret, top military grade style secret; hell we'll bet even the President of the USA doesn't have a clue as to what is really going to happen in latest instalment of the Star Wars Saga. Luke Skywalker is all but absent, we've seen very little of arguably the saga's two main characters C-3PO and R2-D2, Rey and Kylo Rens parentage is literally anybodies guess, and how exactly former stormtrooper Finn works into all this is truly a mystery.
But one of the mostly overlooked mysteries surrounding the movie is the true identity of the commander in chief of the Empire, now rebranded as the First Order; Supreme Leader Snoke, whom is portrayed by possibly the worlds leading figure in motion and performance capture, reknowned for his performances in the Lord of the Rings, King Kong and the new Planet of the Apes movies; British Actor Andy Serkis. As expected, Serkis will once again be portraying a CGI character, the details of which have been scarce, until now.
Speaking recently in EW's exclusive look at the forthcoming space opera epic, Serkis let slip a few cryptic clues about his character background and appearance...
"Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character, and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful. Obviously he has a huge agenda. He has suffered a lot of damage. As I said, there is a strange vulnerability to him, which belies his true agenda."
He’s a new character in this universe. It is very much a newly-introduced character. He’s aware of what’s gone on, in the respect that he has been around and is aware of prior events. I think it’d be fair to say that he is aware of the past to a great degree. The scale of him, for instance, is one reason. He is large. He appears tall. And also just the facial design – you couldn’t have gotten there with prosthetics. It’s too extreme. Without giving too much away at this point, he has a very distinctive, idiosyncratic bone structure and facial structure. You could never have done it [in real life.]"
In Star Wars Episode III, Sheev Palpatine seduces Anakin Skywalker with the tale of his "former" Sith master, Darth Plagueis (pictured below), whom had become so powerful with the Dark Side of the Force that he could create life and even cheat death, Yet Palpatine then tells Anakin that Plagueis' apprentice killed his master. Whether or not Palpatine was telling the truth about Plagueis, the characters mention makes him a part of the "canonical" Star Wars universe. The mention that Plagueis could create life has also led some fans to speculate that Plagueis may be responsible for Anakain's birth; as Aanakin was allegedly immaculately concieved, or as his mother claimed, "There was no father!"
Plagueis history was expanded upon in, the now non-canon extended universe book sharing the characters name, in which it is revealed that the Sith Lord was a member of the Muun race, a race of tall and thin humanoids - which matches Serkis' description of his character (see picture of San Hill). Could this be our first real clue that Darth Plagueis might be the true villain of the entire saga, responsible for masterminding all of the events that have transpired thus far, and those that have yet to occur?
