A small, simple idea this time. To this day players continue to fight over whom will man the turret on a UNSC Warthog. Maybe it is the sheer power of the Minigun/Gauss Cannon/Rocket Launcher that attracts players, or maybe it is the fact that these turret weapons have unlimited,
infinite ammunition, or it could just simply be the feeling of power that entices players to the turrets.
In Halo, turrets can be found on some vehicles, such as the Warthog, Scorpion Tank, Spectre Transport and the Wraith Tank, amongst others, as well as mounted in strategic places on enemy bases. When used as-is all turrets afford players unlimited ammunition, however turrets located within a base such as the Minigun Turret and the Plasma Turret can be detached from their housing and used as a heavy weapon (cannot be carried in reserve and thus is discarded after use), at the cost of losing the infinite ammunition boost.
Now, simply imagine if this very ability was extended to all the turrets found within Halo, including those mounted on a vehicle - imagine jumping on the back of a Warthog, holding the Y button and pulling off the Minigun before turning on your enemy with a spray of lead. This ability would also be available from destroyed vehicles, but more on that in a future post.
But what if you come across a Warthog missing its turret weapon, simply mount the back of the vehicle while carrying a heavy weapon and hold the Y button to attach your heavy weapon to the turret housing. Remember the Mortar weapon suggestion in Halo: Ultimate - Weapons New & Old, attaching it to a Warthog would make your vehicle an artillery platform.
Of course not all turrets in the Halo franchise are manned, some are respectively automated. And while such turrets would not serve well in the above propsed idea, they could prove to be highly effective as a support drop in certain game modes, but we'll cover that in yet another future post.
Next time in Snorkelbottoms Workshop we will continue with Halo: Ultimate and look at Weapon Skins!
