For creative people, there is inspiration everywhere. People like artists, dancers, fashion designers, and script writers could take inspiration from something as small as seeing a butterfly land on a leaf or something as big as losing a loved one. Inspiration lurks around every corner if you know how to look for it! Casino movies probably come at least partly from a writer's experience in a casino, and romances may come from an experience of first love. There are the obvious sources, like a blood-red sunset, and then the slightly less obvious ones, like your favorite video game.
Inspiration for the creation of new films is a particularly appreciated and elusive muse. In an industry where almost everything has been done, where do you find inspiration for something new and exciting? From a reliable, proven source, of course: video games. The lines between creative industries are becoming more and more blurred as more different creatives are employed in different places; it only makes sense that inspiration for creation would pass across borders as well! Here are our favorite five video game adaptations of great movies.

Here we have an excellent example of creative inspiration traveling from industry to industry. The Alien franchise originally began as a story that became a number of films which in turn spawned books and then video games as well. Alien Isolation, released in 2014, throws you straight into the middle of the most terrifying aspect of space travel: isolation. In the game, you play as Ellen Ripley’s daughter. It’s fifteen years after the events of the first film, and the Seegson Corporation sends you to find your mother’s ship. You need to be quick and quiet, but there's no way to avoid the Xenomorphs forever. Alien Isolation is an anxiety fuelled fear ride, filled with lots of quiet sneaking around tight corners and deep shadows. The spirit of the movie is perfectly captured in this game: there's nothing quite like the sense of terror and claustrophobia in Alien.
The amount of source material to be found in the Lord of the Ring and The Hobbit films (which, of course, came from books) is truly incredible, so it’s not surprising that several games have come from the film franchise. Our favorite is Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, released in 2017. Though the creatures and lands will be familiar, your character won't be. You play as Talion, a ranger whose spirit is more than just human; it is infused with the power of the Elven lord, Celebrimbor. Your one and only goal is a familiar one; to stop Sauron no matter the cost. Shadow of War is set in a time before the LOTR movies take place, so it forms a prequel of sorts.

If there was ever a film franchise destined to become a video game, Mad Max is it! The Mad Max game isn't based on one particular installment of the sprawling franchise, though it did release in 2012, shortly after Fury Road came out. This open-world adventure title plays in a similar format to Assassin’s Creed or Batman: Arkham Asylum. You play as the one and only Max Rockatansky, who, just like in the films, is a former highway patrol officer who needs to survive a savage world. Prepare for some excellent vehicular combat moments and fun extras for your car.
Star Wars is a film franchise that has spawned every possible kind of spinoff; TV shows, books, clothing, Halloween costumes,…you name it. In our opinion, some of the video games to come from the Star Wars franchise aren't the best, but this one is definitely a winner. The events of Jedi: Fallen Order take place between Episode III and Episode IV. Your character is that of Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis, who is under the shadow of the Jedi Purge. You’ll have to travel across the galaxy to many planets and battle a number of bosses down several different paths. You can customize your lightsaber to your liking, and you have many force powers at your command.
The Jurassic World franchise is one of the best-known and loved in cinematic history. The original Jurassic Park story came from a novel by Michael Crichton written in 1990. The game runs along more or less the same lines as all of the films. It's a simulation in which you operate a dinosaur park just like the ones we’ve come to know so well. Your park is spread across five islands, and you need to keep an eye on each of them to ensure that nothing goes awry. This game is set apart by voice acting from Jeff Goldblum, B. D. Wong, and Bryce Dallas Howard. You’ll need to focus on science, entertainment, and security skills to balance all of your responsibilities.
