Ewan McGregor will be reprising his role as the titular Star Wars character and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in a fresh, 6-episode miniseries for Disney's upcoming streaming service Disney+. For a while however, Ewan was unable to discuss his return to Star Wars, but recently the actor sat down with Men's Health prior to the D23 presentation to discuss reprising his role as Master Kenobi:
The storyline sits between Episode III and Episode IV, the Jedi Order was falling apart. It will be interesting to take a character we know in a way and show him—Well, his arc will be quite interesting, I think, dealing with that the fact that all the Jedi were slaughtered with the end of Episode III. It’s quite something to get over.
McGregor goes on to say as well how he aims to blend the transition between his portrayal of Kenobi and Alec Guinness' in A New Hope:
I want to get closer and closer to how Obi-Wan felt while Alec Guinness was playing him. I feel like I’m grayer and nearer him in age, so it’ll be easier to do that.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series will be set 11 years prior to the events of A New Hope, so McGregor's actual age of 47 in the role will match up near perfectly for the transition he's hoping for.
We're extremely thrilled to see McGregor back as Obi-Wan for the new series! What do you think so far? Let us know in the comments section!
