Doom Teaser Revealed At E3 2014

Back in 2004 id Software released the long awaited Doom 3. Yet despite its title the game was actually a bump-mapped full 3D re-imagining of the original Doom. Doom 3 was not a remake of the classic original but a narrative retelling of the events that led up to and during the cataclysmic test of Martian Teleporter technology that inadvertantly allowed the forces of Hell passage into our plane of existence.

The game and its expansion - Resurrection of Evil, became instant classics and where shortly followed with a similar reimagining of id Softwares other premier First Person Shooters (FPS) Quake and Wolfenstein. Yet the expected re-imaginings of former sequels Doom II and Ultimate Doom never surfaced. Instead id Software promised a new Doom game before falling silent, until 2011 when they released Rage.

Despite heavy marketing and much hype Rage did not deliver the grandiose new franchise that id Software was hoping for, with low critical and commercial opinion sending the game into many game stores bargain bins, and many fans growing tired of the devlopers promises of a new instalment into the Doom franchise. Finally after nearly ten years of waiting id Software and new partner Bethesda have revealed footage from their new Doom title, called simply Doom.

So it looks like after all this time we are not getting Doom 4, but another reboot. While that is an interesting concept, especially if id Software and Bethesda expand upon it with adaptations of Doom II and Ultimate Doom, many Doom fans would probably like to see a true sequel to Ultimate Doom with a HD & 3D (graphics and movement) rendition of the classic originals. the current trend of rebooting every franchise in existence is bad enough from Hollywood, but not from the gaming industry.
