In just over 8 months from now the seemingly impossible will come true when the long awaited Deadpool movie hits theatres February 16th, 2016. Many fans never thought that studio 20th Century Fox would ever greenlight the movie, but thanks to the dedication of Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller, and the amazing test footage that was leaked online last summer the merc with a mouth is finally getting his own film.
As a recap; Reynolds played Wade Wilson in the 2009 movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but the characters transformation into Deadpool depicted in the climax of that movie was hated by all, fans or nah. Despite this mistreatment of the character and the lacklustre performance of the movie Reynolds vowed to return, and to do the character justice, rallying ever since to get the movie greenlit.
When Fox announced they had indeed greenlit the movie Reynolds thanked the fans via social media. Production began in Vancouver, Canada on March 23rd, before wrapping last Friday, 29th May. On location Reynolds openly showed off the leading characters costume, to almost universal acclaim from the fans. Reynolds service to the fans was strengthened with the April Fools prank he performed with former 'Saved By The Bell' star Mario Lopez, announcing that the movie will indeed be R-rated, while Fox's X-Men franchise writer and Deadpool producer Simon Kinberg confirmed that Deadpool is indeed part of the studios X-Men shared universe. Throughout filming the cast were all caught on camera...
Now that the movie has entered post-production it is only a matter of time before we get to some footage; we speculate that a teaser will probaby be revealed at next months San Diego Comic Con, if not beforehand.
While its possible that the film could fall short of fan expectations we are hoping that Reynolds dedication to the project bears fruit next February and that the film is a success, so that the voices of the fans can finally be heard by the studio fat cats in Hollywood.
