A Darth Maul Star Wars TV series is reportedly in development at Disney for their Disney Plus streaming service! With The Rise of Skywalker making numerous callbacks to the original and prequel Star Wars trilogies and with an Obi-Wan Kenobi series also in the works starring Ewan McGregor, it appears Disney are looking to expand established lore instead of propelling the now-concluded saga forward. According to the report, not only is Darth Maul getting his own series, but Ray Park may indeed return to play the iconic Sith Apprentice once again!
At the end of the Anthology film Solo: A Star Wars Story, we for a glimpse of the presumed dead Sith Lord - a shock to many - and since then fans have been wishing to see more of Maul.
The fresh report of his inclusion in Disney Plus comes from We Got This Covered, in which they claim:
It’s still unclear exactly when we may see it premiere, but reaching out to our sources this week, WGTC was told it’s still in early development and will explore and flesh out Maul’s backstory via flashbacks (which various comics and other tie-in media have already done to some extent), showing us how he became the villain we know him as today. But it won’t be set entirely in the past, as much of it will take place post-Solo as well and dive into what he’s been doing since we last saw him in that brief cameo, with Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra expected to be returning as well.
Now, official sources at Disney have yet to confirm this report, but exploring such a beloved and intriguing character such as Darth Maul seems more than likely. Not only is Darth Maul easily one of the most badass Sith to ever grace the silver screen, he is a truly interesting character and one that has a very unique past.
Exploring Darth Maul pre and post The Phantom Menace and Solo would be just one more tremendous addition to Disney's growing roster of Star Wars spin-off series. As we learn more about this series' particular development we'll be sure to keep you posted! In the meantime, let us know what you think of this report and if you'd be up for a Darth Maul series!
