In news that has completely flown under our radar, Pacific Rim: Uprising composer John Paesano (Netflix's Daredevil and The Defenders) has been replaced. Scoring duties now fall on composer Lorne Balfe.
Balfe is a long time collaborator with Hans Zimmer having teamed with the legendary composer on a number of projects including Inception (2010) and Sherlock Holmes (2009). His own scores include Terminator Genisys (2015), The Lego Batman Movie (2017) and 12 Strong (2018).
The day after Balfe was announced, director Steven DeKnight took to Twitter and seemingly confirmed Ramin Djawadi's main theme from the original movie will return. Both Balfe and Djawadi hail from Zimmer's stable of composers, so the replacement makes more sense.
Some fans aired concern that the Tupac sampled trailer music would make an appearance in the film. Balfe seemed to alleviate the panic on his own Twitter account:
According to Film Music Reporter, Paesano had recorded his score for the film last fall. No official reason was given for his music being shelved.
