Christoph Waltz reportedly cast as Blofeld in Bond 24!

Earlier this month, we reported That Christoph Waltz would play a villain in Bond 24. However, now the identity of the character he is playing has been confirmed, according to the Daily Mail. According to the Daily Mail, the tone of the character has been adjusted accordingly to the tone of the most recent Bond movies. They report that Blofeld will be more sophisticated and less campy according to the source. However, he will be just as sinister to his earlier incarnations. We will analyze this shortly as we process it.

Now, the supposed casting of Dave Bautista as a henchment makes more sense. Blofeld has always utilized henchmen in all of his incarnations in the previous James Bond films. In addition, the tone of the character being shifted may indicate substantial changes to several iconic aspects to the character. This may not mean doing away with them entirely, but changing them to make them more modern. Much of the classic Blofeld character has always had potential to be truly great if modernized.

The statement about making Blofeld less campy is also of significance, although again it may be toning it down rather then removing it entirely. The phrase 'more sophisticated' can mean more then just technologically sophisticated. Perhaps this Blofeld is now also more aware of common villain weaknesses then his previous incarnations may be. The description of his style as 'sinister' is highly indicative of his plan posing a threat not only regionally, but to the entire world-expanding the scope of the conflict beyond that presented in the past few Bond movies. His addition may also mean the return of his organization S.P.E.C.T.R.E.

Bond 24 will be the fourth film for Daniel Craig in his role as James Bond. Previously having been in 'Casino Royale', 'Quantum of Solace', and most Recently, 'Skyfall'. Sam Mendes is confirmed to be returning to direct as well. The release date for Bond 24 is November 6, 2015 in the United States, and as of yet, it lacks a formal title. Lea Seydoux and Dave Bautista are also reported to be attached to the movie.
