To say the recent Star Wars sequel trilogy which concluded the Skywalker saga with The Rise of Skywalker divided and confused fans would be a major understatement. The recent film has perplexed many fans, confusing and muddying the already-muddied waters of the entire saga. It is not surprising to hear that Disney are reportedly looking to bring George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, back on board as somewhat of an executive producer to oversee the development of future Star Wars movies!
According to a fresh report by entertainment industry website We Got This Covered:
Now, with the recent release of The Rise Of Skywalker, which bookended the nine-part, 42-year-old Skywalker Saga in a dazzling-yet-slightly-unfulfilling fashion, we’re hearing that the original writer-director and brainchild of the Star Wars brand—George Lucas—may well be returning to the epic space opera franchise that he helped build.
According to sources close to We Got This Covered the studio want him back, but want him to work in a more official capacity and more ‘on the record’ this time around. It’s likely this new role will give Lucas significant creative control over the direction of the newer Star Wars films that he oversees, unlike his work on Rise of Skywalker, which Lucas allegedly did as a favor to director J. J. Abrams.
Previous to this development, it was common knowledge that George Lucas actually felt rather betrayed by Disney, when they decided to scrap his original plans for the conclusion of the Skywalker saga. Disney CEO Bob Iger outlined Lucas' displeasure with the studio's decision to scrap his script outlines back in September 2019.
We have yet to hear from Disney on whether or not George Lucas will in fact be brought in to oversee development of any future Star Wars movies, so for now we urge readers to take this info with a grain of salt. If true however, we're unsure of what to make of the news. Will George have the same passion he once had for a beloved story he created? Or will his feeling of betrayal and bastardization of his established lore be a deterrent and / or an inhibitor of his creative freedom? Either way, it sounds like Disney is struggling to maintain the mantle which was passed to them.
