James Bond's adventures have taken him all across the globe, to many exciting locales. Slashfilm is reporting that Bond's newest mission will take him to Austria, specifically the town of Obertilliach in the mountains. They report that it is unclear whether this location is standing in for something else. They report also that shooting will take place in January at this location over three days.
The brevity of the shooting schedule for the location is intriguing. The reason for this may be that any scene filmed here is relatively short, or may be used for location shooting. Such shots taken here would merely be background or flyover shots not requiring actors. Either way, it does not appear a scene here would be extensive on screen, but instead be relatively brief.
The mountains of Austria would provide a fascinating backdrop to a Bond film, even if only used for exteriors. In Daniel Craig's recent James Bond movies so far he has not gone into a mountain retreat yet, the closest perhaps being the Scottish Highlands. This locale is reminiscent of Mountaintop lairs such as these scene in 'In Her Majesty's Secret Service'. It mat be a callback to earlier films in the series.
Time will tell what scene is eventually filmed in this location. However, the remoteness of the location as well as the locale, may point to any number of scenes. The film will release November 16, 2015 and will be directed by Sam Mendes with Daniel Craig returning to reprise his role as James Bond. What scene do you think they are filming at this location?
