Denis Villeneuve is the French-Canadian director of last years three-time Academy Award-nominated and critically acclaimed Sicario starring Benicio del Toro, Emily Blunt, and Josh Brolin. The director is currently filming his next movie in Budapest; the as-of-yet untitled sequel to Ridley Scotts 1982 science fiction thriller Blade Runner. The sequel will see Harrison Ford reprise his role of Replicant Runner Rick Deckard alongside the likes of Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista. Speaking recently to EW Villeneuve spoke about how the original movie influenced his career...
“I remember the opening sequence perfectly, thousands of times. That note of music; seeing Los Angeles in 2019; that smog; that darkness. It’s really the movie that gave birth to my desire to become a director.”
On being approached to direct the sequel...
“He (Hampton Fancher) told me that Blade Runner was a dream. We just have to dream again and not worry too much about logic. That removed so much pressure and gave me the key to move forward.”
On the sequels setting, as can seen in the awesome concept art...
“The climate has gone berserk — the ocean, the rain, the snow is all toxic. It’s a Canadian wet dream!”
On the feelings amongst the cast and crew...
”He’s (Harrison Ford) full of wisdom and good advice. It’s a great team and spirits are very high. Failure is not an option.”
