The latest TV spot for Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One features Batman climbing Mount Everest. Because in a virtual reality world where you can meet anyone and do anything, climbing Mount Everest with Batman would be at the top of everyone’s agenda.
Based on the novel by Ernest Cline and set in a near future where VR has taken over, Ready Player One follows Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan), an avid gamer searching for an Easter egg left by legendary designer James Halliday (Mark Rylance) that will give the finds access to his immense fortune. It also stars Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, T. J. Miller, and Simon Pegg.
In addition to Batman, some of the other licensed characters we’ve seen showing up in Ready Player One’s marketing include King Kong, Chucky, Freddy Krueger, the Iron Giant, Duke Nukem, Ryu from Street Fighter, The Tyrannosaurus Rex from Spielberg's own Jurassic Park, and my personal favourite, the Cyclops created by Ray Harryhausen for The 7th Voyage of Sinbad.
Ready Player One will be released by Waner Bors. on March 29.
