Covenant was an exhilarating thrill ride. From the moment the movie began with the classic intro you knew this was gonna be a true Alien film. Everything about Covenant felt like a love letter to the franchises legacy from the mystery and structure of Alien, to the action and suspense of Aliens, the dark nihilism and necropolis of Alien 3, to the sexual, perverse experimentations of Resurrection, and the grand philosophies of Prometheus. There is lots of fan service as well. The film isn't just about retreading old ground either as we find out what happened with Shaw and David as they reached Paradise and what David has been doing for the last 10 years. The Xenomorphs origin is finally revealed. The narrative is rich with biblical allegories and subtext that makes you think. This isn't a film you watch once as there are lots to unwrap and subtleties you'd most likely miss. This is a nice return to form for both Scott and the franchise and I can't wait to see what comes next!
