Potential Lost.
That's all that I can come up with on this one. Every single ad leading up to this movie seemed to point to "masterpiece", but then, weeks before the general release, we started hearing rumors of the AI becoming the major focus. In doing so, virtually taking the HUGE universe of "Alien" down to the control of a mad robot. THIS sort of thing has been so overdone and overused---and made it something that no one that wasn't a true die hard "Alien" fan wanted to see. And I wasn't sure I did, either.
And I didn't. The story falls flat when we are locked into the caverns of the second act, when things crawl along in the dark (literally and figuratively).
By the third act, all the cats are out of the bag, and there are no more surprises, and all that is to happen is being waited on by the audience. The ending was so formulaic and predictable, and boring. The sight of the Big Boy Creature erect, lurking in the dark was the best visuals of the entire movie, and there was just not enough of THAT.
Kudos for trying. ANY Alien movie is better than no Alien movie. But we could've had so much more. So much more. Disappointed fan signing off.
