The one that started it all, where do I start? The plot of the movie is probably the most thought provoking story for a movie I've ever seen. It may seem simple at first, a giant monster movie. But you have to dig deeper. It's about a prehistoric monster that was awoken and mutated by the explosions of atomic bomb tests. This already, shows the power this movie can have. Especially for the Japanese. They experienced the horror of the bombs firsthand. This movie was basically extending that horror into something more. But not only did it show us the horrors nuclear war can bring, it created a cultural phenomena, the beginning of one of the most well know franchises out there. This classic by Ishiro Honda was a masterpiece, easily going down as one of, if not the, greatest monster movies out there. Spawning countless other films, not even just Godzilla films either. But nothing quite reaches the classic that is Gojira.
