I can only assume we have trunks because there is no need to create massive trees if the shooting is going to be at the base of them..

If we have Scenes shot in the past of Engineers among normal trees, then Covenant Cast against these Monsters it would give us the Scale of Larger Engineers.

I'm still of the mindset that the Space Jockey from Alien is NOT an Engineer, but a higher being one step further. Perhaps the Engineers' own creators.
