I really don't want a PG-13 rating. I want the full Alien experience with everything that entails. The people who are really excited about this film are probably hardcore fans who love the original film Alien. That should be of primary concern to both the film makers and to Fox. I know a lot of young people who have never even seen Alien. I understand wanting to broaden the appeal of the film by giving it a more family-friendly rating. But Alien is not really a family-friendly film and Prometheus shouldn't be either. I want it to be nightmare inducing, raw, and totally Alien.

If they rate thew film and cut out so much to accommodate a PG13 rating, so much will be lost. Look what happened with Alien vs. Predator when FOX insisted on a PG13 rating - it ruined the birth of a possibly great franchise. Let's hope the same does not happen here. I am hoping for a solid, and well deserved "R".

CooooooooooooooL!!! Thank you...to whoever posted these pics. The imagery looks pretty nice...don't you think. Looks familiar but also different...an exciting contrast. The ladies look interesting...especially Noomi with the firey red hair...good visual choice. Did I see an egg chamber/silo? Are those eggs? Not sure. The art direction, locations and costumes, and GIGERisms look right...or appropriate...right down to the Space Jockey-esque disc platform set...thing. Don't you think? ~Neurion

The links to Alien are unreal, you can clearly see the resemblances to the NOSTROMO ship, the Alien Derelict; Space Jockey ship, Egg chamber, Pilot's seat and LV 426. And, is that (pic #16 from the top) the Space Jockey itself? Looks Alien to me.

I just hope it doesn't have a pg 13 rating. That would kill the vibe, horror movies are for adults and so is the entire alien franchise. People like to feel real life emotions when it comes to horror meaning adults saying and doing real things when shit hits the fan, and monsters making a mess, cause thats what monsters do, i mean with moderation of course. Remember it was the chest bursting scene from alien that got millions of people on the edge of their seats. The alien transforming while the team of scientist struggled to survive their own chaos, these are the points of great horror a combination of gore and suspense. If the space jockeys made aliens predators or whatever else they obviously have some form of edge to them so they should be scene as scary dark architects masterminds of the universe, yet still vulnerable to chance, fate, as in they are still creatures created by the creator just real smart with genetics. peace.

Clint Mansell is is too comtep. Hans Zimmer may not suit a horror... although maybe a hint at Goldsmiths work would work on this film

@Bishop, I don't know Bish...Hans Zimmer scored the horror film "THE RING", which was plenty scary...to me at least, and a pretty respectable horror film. But I totally agree and would like to hear a hint of Goldsmith...like what James Horner did with ALIENS, i.e. echo sounds, etc... ~Neurion

Hey...what about Brian Eno. He's pretty capable or producing very interesting, strange, etherial, and beautiful pieces. Might be cool to have him handle a particular theme or two. You know...just to provoke a separation or a different feel when going from human to Alien subject matter or imagery in the film. I'm really going to miss Jerry Goldsmith's ALIEN music. His howling and haunting tones on the planetoid and Nostromo exteriors, the bizzare electronic echoing tonalities within the Derelict ship, and the beautiful arias that provoke a sense of wonder...so unique and rare in a horror film. ~Neurion

Hi Rick - i would say that when the marines coined the term 'bug hunt' would prove that they have been shipped out before on other missions dealing with different types of nasties. I think the Company did just that by 'covering up the details to the Government'. Or another slant - maybe the Government is the Company...

This is the way I’ve always figured the events took place: USCSS Nostromo leaves Thedus with 20,000,000 tonnes of mineral ore, bound for Earth. Her science officer is replaced with Ash. While the crew is hyper-sleeping, “Mother” (and probably “The Company” via link) picks up a message of unknown origin and awakens the crew. According to the computer “Mother”…the Nostromo was rerouted to new coordinates…namely the planetoid or “LV-426.” USCSS Nostromo encounters what is assumed to be a distress signal emanating from the planetoid. Android Ash receives orders from the Company to ensure the safety of any alien life form that might be encountered (I don’t think that the Company really or actually knew what they dealing with or investigating at this point). Probably or maybe…Ash communicates to “The Company” the nature of the facehugger and the embryo within Kane’s body. Additional information about the Alien life form is also probably communicated to the Company as the creature develops. The Company issues “Special Order 937”…BRING BACK LIFE FORM…ALL OTHE PRIORITIES ARE RESCINDED…CREW EXPENDABLE. Warrant Officer Ripley discovers that Weyland-Yutani want the Alien specimen and the crew of the Nostromo are expendable. It is revealed Science Officer Ash is in fact an android, who has been protecting the Alien. …Any way that’s about it. I’ve never thought that the Company had any idea or knowledge that the Alien life form was so hostile. I think they were just interested in potential profits that might arise from contact. As Ash says, “There is a clause in the contract which specifically states any systematized transmission indicating a possible intelligent origin must be investigated.” In other words...I like to think that the Company didn't know about the Space Jockey or the Alien until they recieved a communication from Ash. No direct conection to Prometheus. Although...LV-426 or a Space Jockey homeworld could be near common trade routes, like the course between Thedus and Earth. I hope that the new film PROMETHEUS makes no mention of The Company-Weyland Yutani or any other direct human connection to the previous ALIEN films. I hope PROMETHEUS does its own thing...while working in the Space Jockey and Alien creature elements. What do you folks think? ~Neurion

Further observation... I will add that the Company probably picked up the Alien transmission befor Nostromo left Thedus...due to the fact that they replaced the original science officer with Ash the android...a frickin' Company Man...just 2 days prior to departure. You just know that the Company wanted a piece of what ever was going on...on LV-426...so Ash was the "insider"...the company's ace in the hole. ~Neurion

i like to think that the company didnt know about the alien in alien. however, i think that there will have to be a link between the terraforming of LV-426 in aliens and the main story of prometheus. my question is: how did mankind come up with a machine that can terraform a planet? prometheus will be the story of mankind coming across the space jockeys ship on earth, somehow take it back to the space jockeys home planet and humans being humans will steal the machine from our creators upsetting them which in turn makes them send a ship full of eggs towards planet earth ultimatley crashing on LV-426, setting off a distress beacon, which allows the events from alien to occur. this is what i want to see and think it would be the most pleasing and plausable movie which would answer all the questions needing to be answered. any thoughts?

Titan, Could not have said it any better.......in fact as you posted I was writing the same synopsis!! I bought the Blu-Ray Alien Anthology and watched Alien last night with the Ridley Scott commentary and upon climbing on to the Space Jockey's flight deck Scott names "The Space Jockey" and says that no one really questions where the Space Jockey or the Aliens come from and he says that he would love to make a 5 & 6 to explore their origins......obviously this commentary was made some time after Alien Resurrection. He also catergorically says that that the Space Jockey's damaged craft on LV-426 is a bomber and that the eggs are its payload!!! I believe it's chasing The Prometheus back to Earth but doesn't make it and crashes on LV-426. Weyland-Yutani don't know where it has crashed however they are always ready to respond when they do hence the Nostromo waking up and Ash doing his job. Anyway they are my thoughts so far and the Alien Anthology is the best bargain in the world....$40.00 on e-bay!!!.......2 versions of each movie and 60 hours of extras all in crystal clear Blu-Ray!!

i couldnt agree more with your take on this. i have been saying since the start that the alien spaceship that crashed on LV-426 was meant for earth. but i think that the reason why they sent the ship to rid the planet of earth is because we stole the space jockeys terraforming machine which is what made them gods, which upset them, BUT, some how one of the face huggers got onto the space jockey making him crash. if you go back and watch alien and look at the space jockey chest, there you will see that somthing had smashed its way out just like the alien. interesting and very exciting.

If memory serves…Ridley Scott said that he will be cutting a PG-13 and an R rated version together for a final decision to be made by FOX. I HATE THIS IDEA! An ALIEN genre film with an “PG-13” rating. That’s Bull SHIP! What a bunch of sell out, money mongering “suits”! Talk about Pussing out. Now I’m gonna have to sit in the theatre next to a horde of 12 year old, video game playin’ pansies, yakin’ through the whole movie. It just dumbs down and Diet Cokes the whole thing. Why don’t they just pass out Happy Meals and Crayons at the theatre entrance. I guess the BAD-ASSNESS of ALIEN is all in the pass. I guess this is all just part of our jacked up, metro-sexual, boring, passionless society. A society where kids sit on their asses and play video games and Facebook all summer, instead of going to the beach and chasing girls. A society where grown men do the same thing while chasing pornstars on the internet. WAKE UP!!! Okay…I’ll get off my “soapbox”. Actually, the ALIEN film series belongs to 20th Century Fox…to do with it as they will…“All other priorities are rescinded.” In that sense, FOX is not much different than the Weyland-Yutani Company. It’s all about profits…and making money “hand over fist.” The art or aesthetic aspect of it is Ridley Scott and his film crew’s concern. I don’t think that Ridley is too interested in tying PROMETHEUS to the previous ALIEN films too much. He’s always been kind of a “ground breaker” maverick director who does not like to repeat himself. From his and the screen writers statements so far, it seems that PROMETHEUS may answer a few old questions about the enigmatic Space Jockey and the “Alien” creature’s origins…but not be directly connected to the events occurring in the four “Alien” franchise films. Hence the change in the title to PROMETHEUS…instead of ALIEN 5, .5, “The Beginning” or some other dumb variation. Now, as far as pleasing the fans, I don’t know…there are a lot of different kinds of ALIEN fans out there. Some prefer the first film…some prefer the second. Some like mixing it up with “Predators”…some really enjoy all of films. And many will gobble up anything that has the title “Alien” attached to it. For myself, I’m a lover of the original ’79 film…predominantly. I also enjoy many of the aspects of Cameron’s ALIENS. I think PROMETHEUS with probably be a pretty good flick…as long as Ridley doesn’t try to challenge all traditional concepts and beliefs regarding the creation of terrestrial life. At least that’s a pet peeve of mine. Sometimes artists can be a bit self indulgent with their own political and religious agendas. Like the rest of us…Ridley doesn’t KNOW diddly about “The Great Mystery”…or whatever you want to call it. So I hope he doesn’t step on too many sacred toes with this story. That is one of my favorite concepts in the original “ALIEN,” the thing was just a survivor, whatever took to thrive, no “delusions of morality.” No message...simple…just survival. ~Neurion

Hey Arggy, Lets put another spin on your question. How would the Colonial Marine Expiditionary Forces know to call it a "bug hunt"? You really don't think the company could have covered it up by themselves without the "government" knowing about it do you? Obviously something had their interests peaked inorder to send an experienced squad out with a new louie that has no experience do you? Hey Apollo, Nope no ego busting here. We're all speculating on the movie and introducing our ideas on whats going on with it. You bring up a good point here, there was a hint that Ridley is going to be partially basing the movie on Erich Von Dannikens work. Also 2012 is just around the corner with all the end times "hype" why not cash in on the "hype" with Prometheus? Oh I do need to point out that the Nephilim themselves weren't giant it was there off-spring that were giants. On a serious note if you want to learn more about our human past that is outside the realm of the current "knowledge filter" I recommend you get a few books as we suffer from historical amnesia. This isn't fore the faint hearted there is alot of reading several of the books are over 400 pages. 1. This question MUST be answered, in order for the entire Alien saga to have any meaning. How did the company know of the existence of the Alien, what it could do, and that it was on LV-426. First, the special order for Ash, specifically stated that the specimen must be acquired and kept safe for transport. Crew expandable. Which means the company already knew about it. How did it know? Second, the warning signal picked up by Ripley was translated by mother. It was never fully translated and no one else ever picked it up. My theory...it never really exisited. The company created the false signal, as an excuse to wake up the crew. Mother, of course already programmed by the company to go to LV-426, was probably programmed by the company to relay a false signal. Easy to do. Third, Ripley throughout all the films, keeps mentioning that the company wants the alien for its bio-weapons division. Why? For what purpose? Is Earth at war with something else? Or does the company just want the knowledge of the alien's physiology. No offense to Mr. Scott, oh great one, but the series is not yours. No more than it belonged to James Cameroon who punted and avoided all the tough questions that should have been asked in Aliens. I was so psyched about a prequel since this has been bothering me for 30 some years, but if he is going to make some dark space opera on religious tripe, I am more hesitant about seeing it.

An atmosphere with high levels of methane, no carbon or oxygen, and deep cold (as Ash reported) would produce a fossilized creature rather quickly even if it is somewhat protected by the inside of a pierced ship hull.

Alien everything else is a mere copy. its all the science fiction anyone could need.

Well they were very strict on the subject of the original, the director for this one said he is not going and does not want to use CGI, he was to use real live animation everywhere possible apart from one scene with the spaceshipunder the ice, i am sure I can live with that. Does look god though.

if thats the case then its good news. It needs to be shocking and tense, I just hope that they bring something else to the table and not just a retread of the original with different people.

The paramount question that has to be answered to make the entire Alien series plausable is. How did the company know of the existance of the Alien? If that question is not answered, then everything falls apart. Personally I don't really care about the space jockey, or why the aliens were created and for what purpose. How did the company know is what needs to be answered.

And thats why he crash landed... No need for Prometheus, we figured it out already!

Cant wait for the Thing, that was one of the best movies ever, soooooo ahead of its time.

The Thing is one of my fave's. Troubled to see what they do with the film as it could look too polished and fail miserably...
