all this re-issuing of ALIEN related books is great news,
i just hope that along with the rest, that they put out a graphic film novel
of PROMETHEUS much the way they did for ALIEN

i was lucky enough to find a first run copy of this book a long time ago,
i cherish this book, along with my ALIEN: Illustrated Story, etc...

The "Alien:Vault" is awesome, sits right next to my Alien Blu-Ray set. So much information in there and I like to think Scott will some of the ideas he did not get to use in the first Alien film, with a new twist of course.

Edit; I have The Alien Vault and absolutely LOVE it!!!

Looks like Alien is living a third youth.
Not bad for a non prequel!
In addition, Empire magazine is giving a copy of Alien Vault to all the new subscribers.

@ReeceMacoy,
copy that !
After watching that scene again where he mutters "Big Things from tiny packages" or whatever... I got to thinking about all the speculative threads suggesting that this thing could turn out to be a bad film...and all I have to say after watching that 2nd trailer in HD on my LG 47" LCD, is that it could quite possibly just as easily turn out to be the single greatest all time film ever made...let alone just science fiction film...and it seems to me after looking at it real closely, that what we have here is a project where it is very difficult to deny that all the elements for a "PERFECT" FILM, IF SUCH A THING EVEN EXISTS are at play here 100%...a fabulous and intriguing and relevant plot/story, exceptional acting, and 2nd to none art direction with a 1st rate Swiss Surrealist at the helm of it and Ridley Scott overseeing it all with his own strange yet deliciously fascinating "DARK TAKE" on the genre itself. What more could we all want or need in a "special perfect" film.

I also hope the the xenomorph only represents a tiny element of a grand and desolate horror and, for that kind of trade-off, I'd be satisfied to live and never see another.

lol...I'm sure that's the reason. They have my money! Now if I can only get a hold of a Prometheus or Alien T-Shirt!

They are re-releasing alot of things in June for the Prometheus release. Heavy Metal is reissuing the comic and this book as you saw, I am looking forward to "Art of Prometheus" concept art coming out in June as well. I am eager to see what NECA is making as well....can never have enough Alien Statutes in your house.

Some really good ideas, Hasta. I like it. It could be a solution to the problem of why our creators would like to exterminate us.
The only problem: it seems that the Earth is already stored at the data banks of the "derelict" ship. So, be the ship of Engineer or Blue guys fabrication, the last ones should already be aware of Earth´s localization. This requires some clever explanation.

Ah, I forgot about Robocop in 2013.
I really hope it will stand up to the original and not be yet another boring CGI-fest.
Anyway, this topic is interesting, some good suggestions for my poor To-See-List.

I do agree.
This is why I expect a) a big, sweet twist in the history or b) some very bad idealised motivation.

Completely agree with Total Recall. Although it apparently is going to be PG13? I saw a trailer for it yesterday at it looked absolutely amazing.
And Kate Beckinsale in Sharon Stones role! Wow!

ReplyallinambercladPrometheus ForumThe Big Head Controls the GooApr 3, 2012
Yes, “telepathy” could be awful – but something of along those lines needn’t necessarily be: any kind of projected or separated consciousness element in the story certainly would require the skillful handling of a master....and, yet: that head…
It’s already iconic, it appears to be represented as a “character’ in the film and it is clearly massively totemic, even to the point that the marketing for the film is thus far built around it – and it’s even the default avatar for this site!
Withal, I’m finding it quite hard to believe that Head is there only to cast moody shadows, while it dominates that silo. I would tend to agree with a suggestion that Head is, somehow, hugely, hugely significant…beyond it’s “face” value…[; )]
I wonder if assuming that Head is altogether stone, inert and “just there”, could only be to walk the well-worn path of the skillfully misdirected?
We’ve already been given evidence that the ceiling of that self-same silo, (or something on that ceiling, or something that appears to be within the fabric of that ceiling), is able to plasticize and animate – when it would have been a fair and natural assumption to believe that ceiling to be completely inanimate...
Head, himself, certainly looks stone-like, with his cracked forehead and face pocked with glyphs – as stone-like, even, as that ceiling – but, what exactly is this capillary-looking net of “pipe-work” all over, and into, his dome – rising and descending through his whole all surface? Is that just “carving”? Is it solely representational…or actually functional?...
What is Head’s story?
I just can’t help think he has something very important to communicate to us, as an audience, beyond simply “being there”…

ReplySlowboatPrometheus ForumBreak for XenosApr 3, 2012
I'm hoping the xenos are only foreshadowed and don't make any explicit appearances, at least until the very end of the movie to wrap things up. Although Alien Resurrection made a big point of how they could wipe out Earth, I feel like the xenos are just not such a big deal in the grand scheme of things...hopefully there are much greater, more sinister forces at play in Prometheus, and xenos just form an incidental part of the big picture. In the originals, they were mainly a threat to the small groups of humans unlucky enough to stumble across them; not to humanity as a whole.

Total Recall
I'll take any adaptation of a PKD story, and this is one of the few that totally deserves a remake. I had fond memories of the original, but upon a rewatch, it is ridiculous and cheesey on a level that produces comic laughter, and the sets look like they were filmed in a shopping mall (some were). Hard to believe this came out between Alien and T2. It's pretty awful.
The new version, if you can go by the trailer, at minimum, has some spectacular environments that remind me of The 5th Element. Other action recalls Minority Report, which can only be good. Probably not an A level film, but I'm hoping it hits some science fiction sweet spot. Maybe it will surprise.
Looper should be awesome. Rian Johnson only makes good films, and this SF concept could be fantastic. (plus JGL and Bruce Willis).
Alfonso Cuarón's (Children of Men) Gravity is said to have huge extended takes, and could be absolutely breathtaking. Can not wait to see what he does with this space survival film.
Dark Knight Rises--of course.
Star Trek --definitely
ReplyGargoylePrometheus ForumAlien Novels and Space JockeysApr 3, 2012
@ Pro, no I haven't. Didn't get the best reviews but worth a read.
My big point about the Novels is that they come in contact with a SJ and it was not friendly. I am recalling from about 15 year old memory, but the SJ also had an impressive gun that would drop an Alien at a distance in an instance.
ReplyJacques StrappePrometheus ForumPossible clue in the ship hologramApr 3, 2012
They undoubtably do represent the 5 people who enter the temple. When the hologram is initially shown in the trailer (right after the release of the glowing red scanning probes), you can see that these five yellow dots are labelled "D", "H", "S", "F", and "M"--standing for "David", "Holloway", "Shaw", "Fifield", and "Milburn" respectively. Furthermore, you can see that David, Holloway, and Shaw are clustered together in one area, whereas Fifield and Milburn are together somewhere else. I believe that these latter two are attacked/infected at some point.
ReplysnapperPrometheus ForumPossible clue in the ship hologramApr 3, 2012
I think the letters floating of them give it away (d) david (s) shaw
strange thing is I guess the red ones are the scanners but we only see two realesed but three are shown
ReplySlowboatPrometheus ForumThe Big Head Controls the GooApr 3, 2012
I really hope that head was made by primitive humans as a means of worship, or was made to impress them by their overlords. If it's just a piece of set-dressing I will be supremely disappointed.
Putting a big ol' head in your bio goo storage room violates the principles of spaceship interior design for fashion-forward Type II civilizations.
...or maybe they just had this big ugly head they picked up somewhere as a souvenir, and couldn't figure out anywhere better to put it? "No, you can't put that in the cryo chamber, it's hideous. Put it with the sentient goop, no one goes in there anyway."

For me it will be The Hobbit.
And then no clue.
I would be certainly anticipating a sequel for Prometheus, or any movie set in the Alien universe (not AVP).
Or possibly something set in the WH40K universe (though I am pretty sure it would be god-awful).
I cannot think of any other movie that could make me so excited as Prometheus, though (not even Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection, back then. I was too young for Alien and Aliens).
