SvanyaPrometheus ForumI'm Not Sure About ShawApr 3, 2012
Squidy looks a heck of a lot like a facehugger. Ty for the great pic of shaw's belly stapled up, I was never able to see that detail. I have seen that image of Shaw struggling to walk in the Trailer, and she falls to her knees before 3 white clad people that are sitting around a table.
@allinamberclad; Not an unlikely scenario, if I knew something horrifying was inside of me I would try and cut it out myself or at least find a way to have it removed as fast as possible.

Geebus... I guess that went right over your head.
How about this one...
The Nostromo is like a the TRACTOR part of a TRACTOR-TRAILER... The back part was an 20 million ton ORE HAULER/AUTOMATED REFINERY. Its not a FREAKING SHIP!!

But isn't the guy screaming "Cut it OFF"? I think some guy gets infected and it becomes so much that he screams to have a limb amputated, or worse.

The hieroglyphics on some of the SJ structures look quite Sumerian. Sumerian is the world's first language (I think), but I think it's also extinct, and as such we still don't know a whole lot as to what they mean, apart from how various symbols mean different things, that there's no alphabet either.

That WAS NOT a MILITARY operation.. just saying
And you dont seem to understand what the Nostromo was... It was essentially a glorified TUG BOAT hauling a BARGE.. It essentially left behind a CARGO CONTAINER. And it DIDNT have anything like a shuttle... only a small lifeboat.
It HAD to land on the planet... There was no other way to get down. Just saying...

Some of those are a week or two old, but there are definitely some new ones, at least ones I haven't seen, like the ones of Shaw smiling. Cute smile, too.....shame it won't last.
Charlize Theron is sitting in a rather fancy room, too. Someone said it looks like something out of Stanley Kubrick's 2001; I can see the resemblence.
Someone also said the suits remind him of Mass Effect. Damn I really should try that game some time....but I've never played the series, so playing ME3 would make me feel incomplete.
ReplyMyrddin365Prometheus ForumI'm Not Sure About ShawApr 3, 2012
This scene is proof that Shaw thinks the company is complicit in evil activities and she is trying to escape them by any means necessary.

Interesting stuff. And do keep in mind that the story of Prometheus is often considered to be a myth. Scientifically-speaking, cavemen used fire when they first saw it; they either invented it or they saw it happen like, I don't know, lightning struck a tree or something?

"The fact that there was NO crew of any kind left on board AT ALL in orbit is utterly ridiculous. I guess for Cameron that sets up a subplot of having to call down a second dropshit from an empty ship, but this is really moronic."
In Alien the NOSTROMO left it's main hub(alone) in orbit as well. So is Alien/Ridley moronic? Just saying...

So we're going to call that mysterious humanoid the "Blue Guy"? Okay; I'll keep this in mind from here on. Nice name. You do mean this guy, right?
Interesting theory on the Blue Guy being Shaw's child. I can see it happening; up 'til now I honestly thought he was just looking for somebody to rape. Or maybe the Blue Guy was either David (having been augmented), or Weyland (having fulfilled his desire to become a god).
As for when a possible sex scene occurs, until the time comes (bad choice of word there), all we can do is guess. Maybe they decide to have some sweet-hot-sex even despite Holloway having a creature on his eyeball. Both Shaw & Holloway are supposed to have an intimacy in the storyline, though we don't know how deep it is. Love leads to tons of illogical moments; there's crazy shit going on but the two still have each other and will never leave each other, that sort of thing, and then one thing leads to another. Of course it looks like Holloway gets it in the movie, or at least becomes some hostile mutant, either due to cortico-deficiency syndrome or because the infection devolves him into some instinct-driven, primal subhuman.

its so well made that if you have a copy from the Quadrilogy set and play it in surround sound with a good LCD you will be amazed...The Death scenes were expanded and enhanced and contain some of the best footage IMO from all 4 films! The camera work in the tunnels is awe inspiring, and the story is much more complete so the entire experience is far superior to that of the theatrical release and the better your system the more you will notice.
ReplyGuestPrometheus ForumVirgin Birth?Apr 3, 2012
Well, it rather depends on whether the making-out scene happens before or after the birth scene (granted, before would make intuitively more sense, it really is tough to imagine Shaw having a thing for sex for some time after experiencing the alien birth.) If it happens before the birth scene, it would be important to see whether Holloway has been infected with something already (as in the eye in the mirror scene). That would make the virgin birth significantly less virginal, true, though it would still be interesting (I think it would even INCREASE the probability of the blue guy being Shaw's child, but this time a SJ-modified child of her and Holloway). Lastly, we do see the make-out session begin and it looks quite passionate - but does it get fully consummated? We do not know, any more than we know whether the already iconic "we were wrong-so wrong" and "i'm so sorry" are consecutive in the movie at all, or spliced from very different parts of the movie.

ReplyartyohPrometheus ForumA Circular State of Promethean AffairsApr 3, 2012
There's a clip of the maproom, with david surrounded by what could be three SJs. Some have said that the one in the center is merely a reflection of the one on the left, as he approaches a sight-line with the sphere at the center of the map. The one on the right, could just be a trick of star lights within the map.
I think there are probably at least two, anyway. An optical reflection on a sphere is always distorted, and the image of the central figure who seems to appear out of the darkness, from behind the sphere, is not distorted.

@Alien DNA
It is a very well polished and expanded edition of the original film that when viewed on a decent enough system will leave you breathless in just how beautiful a film it is. It explains so much, they filled in all the holes, made some fantastically wonderful changes and actually did it as a tribute to what Finchers original vision was in respect for the man and in light of the theatrical release which he refused to attach his name to and The suits at Fox did anyways.

I should have come back to check this thread again earlier, but I have one more question now...
I think I saw some posts in various topics where I think people mentioned 3 Blue Meanies in this area. Is there in fact a scene that shows 3 on screen at once?? or did I misread that?

@artyoh Time and urgency?
And I kinda hope it doesn't boil down like that? If it does, I'll be pretty disappointed: the whole deal is that they are asleep and also lazy, so they set this whole thing up so that when we call, they set off to basically consume us? Please, no...
My reference wasn't to technology, per se? It was in terms of reaching a specific level technological advancement - less the artifact, more the artifice: an industrialized species is technological, but they are not sufficiently intellectually advanced to travel between stars - that is a step-change.
I was only wondering if, for example, we were regarded less as simply a food for something and more as component within something, or perhaps as the starting basis of something else notice of such a step-change in intellectual and technological capacity mightn't be useful...
The month of June has never seemed so far away.

There are some brutal scenes in A3 (Newt's autopsy, Hick's smashed face from the EEV and the dog and/or ox chestbursters). Fincher's Zodiac film makes me lock the doors...creepy as hell.

Aliens is a popular popcorn flick. But you probably should have actually watched the FIRST MOVIE. Have you seen Alien from 79??. Cameron took the idea in a direction which had never been envisioned from Ridley Scott or Giger.
BTW: With respect to the Xenomorph term, it was first coined in Cameron's sequel, and it sort of stuck because no one had applied a proper or scientific type name to the "Alien" before.
I completely agree that there are many non-sensical elements in Aliens. I had also been bothered by the "Is this going to be another bug hunt or a stand up fight"... It was like huhhhh... In some dialogue its like there has never yet been any other sentient type of life yet found, but in other statements Cameron makes it sound like we had been battling all kinds of critters from the Star Wars Cantina for decades??? What????
To be fair, its not like the Sulaco was a really large vessel. It would more along the lines of a small corvette or frigate...But with respect to the military "tactics" frankly much of it doesnt make any sense at all.
The fact that there was NO crew of any kind left on board AT ALL in orbit is utterly ridiculous. I guess for Cameron that sets up a subplot of having to call down a second dropshit from an empty ship, but this is really moronic.
We really could go on all day about how much of it makes no sense, but take it for what it is... a shoot 'em up with a lot of one line zingers.
It doesnt really relate to Prometheus at all though.

If he hadn't killed them I don't think there would be so many people complaining about the film. I think Cameron summed up what eveybody was thinking. I haven't seen the remastered 3. Is it comparable to Highlander 2 and the Renegade Version of that movie, it's a totally different film and experience.
