Answer me this. The jockeys use a biosuit. Now the suit itself is a living organism and has to be fed and maintained inorder to keep it alive. Who's to say the facehugger didn't impregnate the "suit" thus killing it and inturn the jockey itself when the suit dies. Thus giving the jockey inside time to set off a signal. Does anyone have any ideas on what happened to the alien that came from the Jockey? Was it the one that laid the egss under the blue force field or were they already there?

And if Vickers is in in the suit, and the alien derelict is the transformed Prometheus spaceship? Facehuggher size are too small to infect the space jockey. So inside there is a body with the head much smaller

Answering yor question Rick,I strongly believe the eggs were already under the blue force field in a sort of suspended animation until they were needed or as we see in Alien,when something breaks the field. As i wrote in my topic 'Ripleys escape', the Alien was supposed to have a limited life cycle and once completed it breaks down spilling acid everywhere and dies,a superweapon you dont have to contain. This is what i believe happened to the Alien that came out of the space jockey.If you look closely at the hole Kane descends,it appears to have been melted through. I think the alien simply reached the end of its cycle,died and the resulting acid release caused the hole. Its an idea I think holds continuity,what you think? A bigger question is how did the space jockey become the victim? Was it sabotage? I cant believe a face hugger got out by chance or the space jockey had a nasty tumble into the egg pits...

Or maybe, this jockey stole the ship in order to stop the eggs from been used,crashed it on a dead moon on purpose and the resulting crash let out a facehugger?

Here is a scary thought. The Alien roughly takes the size and form of its host perhaps a little bigger. For humans probably about 7-9 feet tall. The "dog" in Alien 3 was shorter only 3-5 feet tall. If that holds true and that space jockey is big... What the heck did the Alien grow to be?

Hi Rick! Everything is merely supposition until it's in print or on screen. In this day and age considering how long fans have theorized given the few facts we have I wouldn't discredit any plausible suggestion. There are some who believe that the derelict was carrying the embryo's as it's cargo thus the need for a stasis field to keep the cargo from hatching prematurely. The more dynamic theory is based on the hole burned in the deck plating near the Space Jockey. The xenomorph obviously adapts to it's environment, after reaching maturity without any additional prey organisms it changed it's biochemistry enabling it to become a queen. The Queen spends it's lifespan spawning and placing her progeny in the cargo hold beneath the control dias on the derelict. With it's job finished she dies and decomposes over the course of time. Some time later the luckless crew of the Norstomo arrives and explores the ship. Kane said, " There"s a layer of mist, covering the eggs, that reacts when broken." That's the only thing that makes me think that the eggs were the ships cargo. The hole in the floor suggests something a little more violent occurred, I dunno, I've been wondering for years.

Hello Mates! My screen name is Cain, though spelled differently on here. I first Alien when I was 7 years old. I begged my mom to watch it and she let me. Needless to say after watching this delightful film, I was in my bed, looking under my bed and at the closet the whole night. Alien propelled me to go to film school and be a writer. I have to say that I love Alien the most and I like Aliens for the military aspect. I was in the military for 13 years of life. Alien though will always remain my favorite film. I love the dark mythos and the mystery that shrouds this world. I am hoping that Scott does well with Prometheus and we are once again scared beyond anything when we see it in the theaters. Do we know what Ash was made from? Seems there was a very important white fluid that allowed these robots to function and act human. Could this be some kind of Biomech DNA material the company synthesized from the DNA code that was discovered on earth. Maybe the character of Vickers may also be one of these robots like Ash and is coursing with this Biomech DNA and perhaps some new material is discovered to be out there, maybe when they found the original DNA there was a pointer to a planet (zeta reticuli) where something mysterious would be found and so they send this first team to investigate. However instead of something wonderful it is a virus engineered by a giant head alien below ground. This virus may react specially with Vicker's biomech DNA and she grows into something strange, perhaps she becomes the space jockey herself eventually. Maybe while she is growing her mind becomes sick and she starts genetically manipulating the urns that contain the virus so that they become a new life force (xenomorphs} a virus that will affect humans. Perhaps she also has some ties with the engineer and splices her genes with the giant head and engineers a ship to grows out of her and around them. Maybe the derelict didn't crash maybe it's development was arrested when something burst from her chest. I do not believe the space jockey has to be very old. It was just assumed he was in Alien because he looked fossilized but the planet was constantly having strange dust storms, couldn't that explain the appearance of a fossilization? Perhaps the biomech DNA also fossilizes faster than anything we are use to. Hey Ghost, I think the "Hive" approach Cameron took in Aliens was to kick in that primal fear that people have of Killer Bee's and the horror stories revolving around Killer Ants, two of the dominant hive mind creatures on earth. Also when you look at it from the stand point of the egg chamber in the ship I would guess there were thousands of eggs. Which to me meant mass production of aliens. Now to me and I'm not defending Cameron by saying this but how else would you be able to collectively manage 1,000's of aliens without the Hive Mind approach? There are millions of humans and we can hardly collectively get along let alone make decisions enmasse. Individually we're smart creatures but collectively we couldn't find are rears with both hands. I am pretty sure they do not have any bearing on Prometheus. I think only of the 1977 Alien movie. Ok so if the Jockey's are using a Bio Suit (like in Independence Day) then I could see the trunk part being a sort of biological rebreather/filtration system or oxygen supply to the head of the wearer. The Huge eyes would definitely give you a huge field of view in a sort of bioHUD. I have no clue as to how the suits could ambulate if the jockey are any bigger than a human. If the jockey's bio suits are huge then the jockey's themselves could very feasibly be around our size or smaller.

I heard that it was a sequal, not involvng Harrison Ford or the Deckard charactor. I hope Ridley keeps to the style of the original film and maybe answers a few questins from the original film.

Ghost Solitaire I love the idea that the ship is a living thing and I agree with that since the space jockey seems to be interfaced with the ship. I agree aswell that the company would be highly interested in the ship's technology although they never got the chance to study it because of the events in Alien and Aliens.

Agreed about the living ship idea; that sounds pretty sweet. This may be insignificant, but my one quip is this: the older the ship is, the older it's distress signal is. Just comparing it to our modern technology, we can barely keep a standard for 20 years... Perhaps the Nostromo could recognize all older distress signals as well? But if the ship is 10,000 years old... Would they even be able to get a distress signal? I doubt we'll still be using radio in 10,000 years...

Theres an idea in an alien spin off novel called 'Steel Egg' where it describes a distress signal having detailed information on the Alien, its lifecycle etc. Maybe the company picked up this signal and were able to decypher it,then send in the Nostromo? The original signal in Alien could be thousands of years old. They explain today that our radio signals are flying through space,a sort of frequency echo. This could possibly explain the age of the derilict and also how the company found out about the Alien in the first place? It always bothered me in Alien,that Ash didnt go to the derilict to destroy this 'signal' so other organisations wouldnt find it. Maybe the company realised that what ever was producing this signal was long since destroyed/kerputt, the radio echo theory may be the answer? Whats your thoughts?

I disagree. I think we'll use electromagnetic radiation to communicate forever. It is a fundamental force after all. In Alien, Dallas says that it's an "acoustical beacon" which doesn't really make sense since acoustics is vibration through solids, liquids or gases. How did the Nostromo receive the signal in space? It was hypothesised that the signal was a warning so the space jockey may have deliberately used a variety of different types of transmission.

If the Xenomophic/terraforming theory was correct wouldn't you want to recover the ship if that was your technology? What happened there, why didn't the Space Jockey's people come for the ship if they were at all concerned about having it's secrets revealed. Easier yet, why didn't it do what Ripley did with the [i]Nostromo[/i] Those are all questions that have revolved around each time I watch the film. I read the Alien Harvest blog, and while it's entertaining, I hope that Prometheus goes in a different direction. I hate to think that our falibilities as a species resulted in the entire chain of events.

Space will be a playground for the privilaged and the powerful. The ships and technology represent investments in capital and resources that would bankrupt small independent companies. Weyland Yutani is a conglomerate that has probably eaten up all the lesser corporations that might have been a threat to it. No doubt they would not have a problem resorting to industrial espionage in order to keep their interests private. As regards the Space Jockey's distress signal perhaps it required years of reconstruction if had been bouncing around between stars losing integrity for thousands of years. There's a lot of noise out there and if it was one segment of bandwidth among all that static. It might have been discovered by unmanned survey ships as Weyland Yutani obviously has mining interests. If a survey probe did a fly by of the system it would have stood a better chance of picking up this beacon if the broadcast itself was faint due to EM interference from LV-426 or it's two suns. Worse yet, if the ship was operating under reduced output so the signal strength was downgraded in order to conserve it's power reserves.

where is Giger in all of this? will he get some long deserved and neglected credits? we are seeing his inventions on the masthead of the site here and i saw 'derelict ship' designs allegedly from this film that completely reference Giger's 'derelict ship' from Alien

H.R. Giger is doing all of the Alien designs in Prometheus,including the brand new bigger xeno, but he is bound by contract not to give anything away. This film will be special.

Wouldnt it be a unique twist if the Alien knew that the ship was about to self destruct? That it is infact an intelligent lifeform and not simply running on instinct?

It was not suggested that the Xenomorphs were merely animals until Cameron took his swing at the Franchise. The films that followed Alien portrayed the xenomophs as beastial acting on instincts, really crushing any notion that the organism might have been highly intellegent, adapting to it's environment from the moment it borrowed DNA from it's host organism. Looking at it from a structural standpoint, that's a very big cranium...

Arrgy - I think I've pinpointed where we may be thinking of this differently. In my interpretations, I was not taking into account anything from any of the sequels. Including the aliens reactions towards humans vs androids. That's because I believe the sequels will be largely ignored in Prometheus. In other words, I don't think the alien will be treated as a wild animal/insect that drives off instinct. Maybe necessity, but not instinct. Another interesting theory I heard elsewhere is that the Alien had Kane's memories and acted upon them. (i.e.: It killed whomever Kane disliked or was annoyed by.) This would also explain why its suggested that the Alien did not kill Lambert but instead tried to "mate" with her causing her to die of fright? Probably just speculation but interesting to think about, ain't it?

Yeah definately makes sense but sadly the expanded universe material and sequels kind of kills that idea. In Aliens the xenomorphs have been at the colony for weeks.

I have stated before that Aliens 'killed' a unique creature by turning it into a giant ant.The original concept of the Alien was completely different from what was created later in Aliens. The Alien originally self reproduced (no queen) and was an engineered weapon that had a limited lifespan. Please people,forget what has happened in Aliens and the rest of the fast money franchise! Ridley Scott has already said hes going back to the basics which is why Prometheus is been billed as NOT an alien prequel,so all the Cameron faithful dont get upset when the Queen and the hive mentality dont make an apperance.

I hope, in Prometheus, they haven't done anything to contradict the other alien films because it'll just make an even bigger mockery of the franchise. I really didn't like Alien Resurrection because ironically it didn't resurrect the franchise- it nearly killed it- and I didn't like what they did with the alien versus predator films, especially requiem. That film was dreadful

Well, from ALIEN we can determine that the Space Jockey has some humanoid characteristics. You can clearly make out the head, two arms and fingers. Not too much is known about them, aside from what you already mentioned. My guess is that they (or their suits) look very "elephant-like" in nature. The creatures inside them, who knows. That's where the "suspense" comes into play. BUT, if we are going with the hypothesis that the Space Jockeys created humans, and going by the Christian Bible which states that humans were made in "God's Image" then I don't think it's very "far out there" to assume that they will have some definite human like characteristics. Hopefully some more concept artwork will be released, or some more screen caps will be show cased so we can have a better grasp on the subject. But until then, it's anyone's guess.
