I read that too, but now I am not so sure.I think we will see a xenomorph (there is alot of talk of a protoalien) but not quite as we know it.Giger has been hired for a major scene and I hope he's creating the new creature.I am not sure the Jockey or the derelict will appear in this film, maybe the sequel will lead into it.Here's hoping :)

for me just having Giger there, which was a MASTERFUL move by Ridley to begin with and I expect nothing less, ever, from him....guarrentees this film will look awe inspiring. that combo...Scott-Giger"...in any amount...can only make this thing shine like a diamond. this one is going to shine so bright it's gonna leave a long long trail of dust in it's wake IMO. for me this is a "CANNOT MISS" project based soley on the fact that these 2 men are doing it. and the first thing, incidently that popped into my head when they said Scott was thinking about doing this, was this..."I hope he gets H.R. Giger again". I still have a Zeppelin Bootleg album from late 79-80 from KNEBWORTH with his artwork all over it. When I look at it now all these years later it still looks so perfectly original. Gigers work truly is...ART... and so is Scott's cinematic visions. Ya put those 2 together and BANG...ATOMIC BOMB !!!

I can't wait to see teaser trailer for this movie! Maybe I'll have to wait until February for the SuperBowl perhaps. Either way, June 8 will definitely be a special day and not just because it's my birthday!!!

some kind of giant telepathic "elphantile-like" massive creature was the way they described the so called "growers" in the so called "phony" Spaiths script. that being said... I think of the space jockey as one of the growers. that covers the outside for me. the inside i leave open to how Ridley determines to address that for everyone...cause I do think we're going to find out 100%. my guess about what happened to the original Face-Hugger that got into the "Prometheus" I guess their going to call it {if they intend on referring to the ship with that name}, and impregnated that Space Jockey... ...it like many many others I imagine as they first arrived swarmed that entire cavernous area of LV426 and cleaned it out of every living thing down there, if there even was any, which allowed a queen to lay all "dem" eggs that KANE first so deliberatley encountered bringing us all here to this point 35 years later. that Face-Hugger is really incidental to the story/timeline now but I think you could make a whole side movie spin off...lmao...about that particular Xenomorph's life. imagine the possibilities...lol.

Hey did anyone know that the Frankenstein novel is subtitled The Modern Prometheus? The similarities may not end there. Could Scott be paying a bit of homage to Marry Shelly's Frankenstein, after all some consider it the very first work of science fiction. Perhaps the following description from Wikipedia would also fit Prometheus: "Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is a novel about a failed artificial life experiment that has produced a monster." - Frankenstein - Wikipedia

I think he's referring to both"The Growers" and "The Alien Ant farm Babies" from the so called "phony" Spaiths script with Ridley's own twist put to them. Just My opinion. And if I am wrong that's great too cause he could probably come up with something even better as a lot of people out there suggested. Either way like I said, for me, this is the most exciting thing to happen in film in the last 25 years at least and I bet the first TV add campaign we see is astounding just like that first shot of the egg in the harrowing first lead in to the franchise we all witnessed some 35 years ago. I don't care what people tell ya today, a lot of them only went in the first place cause of that 1st 2 minute spot. What we ALL got what something we haven't ever forgotten. I remember sitting in that theater 35 years ago with my JAW IN MY LAP. It was so Original. This one's gonna be too, you can tell even Scott is Amped. and With Geiger on board they just can't miss.

also of note, I saw a shot from the "dailys" by accident and in one of them we Clearly see an Alien that looks completely new in "breed"...like it's "mommy" mated with some other new thing. and of course, it looks like one big mean angry "Biaaaatch". lol.

@Spartacus Thats interesting! This pic you saw is from the daily's from the actual Prometheus movie? How'd you get a look at those???

BiomechanicPrometheus ForumSomething even more dangerous!
He could be referring to a virus or a mutagen that is in those urns. Spartacus, I am wondering also how you saw the dailies? I heard Prometheus is being shot on digital Red Epic cameras, I assume the digital dailies would just be for producers and executives who can't be at the shooting and kept most secretive.

I have the new Blue Ray 6 disc Anthology. On the Audio Commentary Ridley Scott likens the Space Jockey's craft to a sort of "Aircraft Carrier" with the eggs being weapons. He says that he wants to explore and answer the questions of where the Space Jockey and the Aliens come from in a future "5 & 6".

Humans aren't going to steal anything. They are going to be given the technology otherwise the name Prometheus has no meaning. Prometheus means forethought which imlpies that humans have been manipulated with the intention of some future goal for the manipulator.

LOL Ok, I'm going to be a bit whimsical here. So we don't really steal the technology but we are in possession of the stolen technology. After-all Prometheus was the one doing the stealing. Hey since the ships name is Prometheus maybe it steals the technology for the corporation with the help of the androids.

Thadus, To answer your question, they needed an end to the film (quoted directly from Scott). About the points of considering the films as separate genre's. You guys seem to forget that the film is written, and its not written by the director its written by the screen writers. Its the Directors job to make the movie within view point of the script that the writers are trying to portray. I so get tired of hearing the bashing of the other Alien films "because they weren't directed by Scott" If you didn't like the films go talk to O'Bannon and Shusett they wrote the Alien Anthology. Not Cameron, Not Scott, Not Fincher (Note Alien 3 was brought on by Ridley's comment about the alien taking the host form aka Dog Alien) See Link Alien Design 2 (Youtube) Alien: Truly Mindblowing Sci-fi Work for the Era. I really think its better than Star Wars. Aliens: Logical follow through from Scott's work on Alien. Although the Alien Queen seems too topsy turvy, cumbersome, and too marionette'd. I really do love the action spin-up taking it from Suspense to Action. Alien 3: See Link to Youtube on Scott's quote about the Dog Alien and good logical ending to the Trilogy. Alien: Resurrection: I agree with everyone on Alien: Resurrection I can understand the route they took needing to bring Ripley back, but still disagree with it. This totally killed the film for me. Ripley was dead let her rest. AvP's: Ok, Really?, Game Geeks United?, Nuff Said on That I also remember reading somewhere quoting from Scott that the Aliens sole purpose is to reproduce and that's that. Much like a Wasp see's a Spider as a Host for its young. So all the movie's really link back to Scott's work so he has touched on every film in a way. Regards, Rick

So why detract from Cameron when Shusett and O'Bannon got the idea from worms burrowing into the skin and using hosts which is insect behavior. Which Cameron portrayed rather well in Aliens. I bash Cameron because he wrote Aliens along side Giler and Hill,O'bannon and Shusett had nothing to do with it.Aliens is Camerons vision, not what was originally intended. It was Shusett's idea about the face hugger and chestburster, he's never said he got the idea from insects,it just came to him late one evening, watch the 'Alien Evolution' documentary

Thanks Thadus12 for setting the record straight. Some might find it interesting to read the original Alien script I think if one wants something to look to for an idea of what Ridley might build on in Prometheus it is this. This also lays out the Alien life cycle completely. Another good resource I stumbled upon about Alien: Alien Explorations A particularly good explanation of the Alien life cycle can be found here

You're right about the screenplays. I just went and looked through them all. On that link I put out there Ron Shusett and Dan O'Bannon did talk about getting the idea from worms burrowing and erupting from the skin on the chestburster. Scroll the time back to 5:15-20 just before Scott talks about the Dog Alien. This is where Scott starts talking about macro photography regarding worms and their complex life cycle, followed by Ron and Dan's idea for it.

i don't know why but i think that in porder to create alien form spacejockeys need human DNA . I think that they really need us , humans to be able to create this alien forms ...(just a concept)

That's a possibility. Maybe there's something in our Genetic Memory that was coded into our DNA that the Space Jockeys need as a catalyst to kick the Alien Genome off. Could be some lost technology that the Space Jockey's used and lost over time.

Hey Hudson, I don't think there is an expedition on Earth. I think that was brought about by the bogus synopsis that was briefly circulated. As far as FTL, that I don't think could ever be achieved, because as matter approaches the speed of light its mass substantially increases. It's stated somewhere that a ship the size of the shuttle would be as big as earth at the speed of light. I don't think the Nostromo had FTL although it was never stated in the movie. I think Einstein-Rosen Bridges (wormholes) would be more practical. The Star Map that was seen on the floor could be locations of the wormholes that could be near our planet and their planet. A good movie example would be Wing Commander. Heck maybe the technology we steal from the Space Jockey's could be a means to artificially create wormholes. Wouldn't that be something. I don't know if terraforming would really be a technology that we could steal. Its something we've been doing to our planet for the last 40 years. Albeit it has been for the worse regarding our species unless we steal technology from the Jockey's that can do it in short order like in a single lifetime versus thousands of years. Regards, Rick

Both good points. And I tend to agree in some aspects. I think that is the good thing about these debates. I personally think that Aliens is probably one of the best sequels ever made in that it didn't repeat what the first film did and expanded the original idea into something else entirely that the audience had never saw or expected to see. Maybe because I marginally enjoyed Aliens more could sway my opinion that way. Regardless it doesn't mean that you guys are wrong, on the contrary your points are well valid and you will probably get more people agreeing with you rather than me but rest assured Alien is and always will be a benchmark for sci-fi films everywhere. Lets just hope Prometheus is as good as we all hope.

I'm right there with you CarterJ. I've never been more pumped for a movie like this in a long time. I just hope my exceedingly high expectations don't get the best of me when going to see it. Being that this is Ridley's first sci-fi in almost 30 years I'm sure he will approach this project with as much enthusiasm that he did with Alien and scare the hell out of us in all new ways. I don't think he will disappoint us.

fair opinion, And from a technical point you are correct by majority opinion, still, I just thought it had some cool ideas in it and that it's got to be quite hard to write a script like that.

I've already answered this in a previous post but the greek tale of prometheus has more implications than just the titan giving mankind fire. He gave mankind a new awakening with his interactions and was punished severely for it. I believe that, in Prometheus the film, the space jockeys will be divided in opinion. I think some will want to teach and develop humans while others will want to reign dominant over them. I think that a lone space jockey will defy his race and give mankind a new technology and knowledge. This will possibly lead to the discovery of FTL travel and space exploration- hence the Weyland- Yutani science vessel- "Prometheus".

Another interesting part of the Prometheus tale is Pandora's casket. She opened the casket given to her by the space jockeys and unleashed the alien, giving mankind much misery, lol. Maybe one of the cast in the film will be the equivalent of Pandora...

I'm still unsure as to what will be discovered in the expedition on Earth that leads the exploration team to seek out the Space Jockey race. I remember seeing a set pic awhile back that showed what looked to be a representation of a star constellation or map on the floor. Perhaps they use this constellation or even find coordinates to their planet and that's how the journey begins. I think FTL travel will already be an invention at the time of the discovery, but the findings on Earth is what will prompt the team to seek them out. I think the so-called "fire" that will be stolen is the substance hidden within the eggs/urns that we saw in the leaked screen caps awhile back. Whether this assists in the terra-forming process or is bio-source code for creating new life I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure this is the technology that will be taken away from the Space Jockeys.
