I know! This last one baffles me, too, because of those SJ suits or statues or whatever they are. WTF. I thought the chair was the suit, not a separate mobile suit.

I finally got into Blade Runner after writing a paper on it in college. The paper was on comparing the style of Blade Runner to Fritz Lang's Metropolis. Ridley Scott had said he used the architectural style of buildings for Blade Runner. It's funny, but the 1982 cut of Blade Runner was on Encore this past Sunday. After viewing the 1991 Director's Cut, the 1982 version(especially with the Deckard V.O.) wasn't all that exciting. In the end, I'd have to consider Blade Runner as Ridley;s 2nd best film, with Alien as #1.

i AM SO HAPPY AFTER READING ALL OF THIS...because one of if not the first thing I said after the first leaked trailer was..."I betcha this all starts with some sort of discovered "INVITATION" to a Dance In Outer Space, somewhere on Earth. It was a great idea then, and it is a great idea now, and I love what you guys have done with it, just fantastic, highly creative, love it

I havnt seen any evidence that the SJs hate us... I have a feeling that the painted messages were probably made by early man and perhaps were misinterpreted them. I reckon that after finding them we meddle with things which we shouldnt and it all goes south. Cant wait to find out.

I am also thinking we should not be looking at the Space Jockey in Alien and trying to think why it looks different. Indeed the very Derelict ship in this movie may not be the same one that landed/crashed on LV 426 and hence the not a direct prequel. We need to maybe look at 1) The Star Charts found in Ancient Civilisations in the movie, which is Fiction but they are using references to real Ancient Civilisations and Myths. Sumerian, Egyptian and off course the Titans of Greeks (Prometheus) now these Civilisations have Gods that are depicted as being just like Man only taller, more devine and powerfull. They created us in their image and out of clay. The images of these Gods apear as Man just double the height. 2) The Story of Prometheus, which again is based on one Titan who created us from clay, using his genes he creates us in his image. This is done without the consent of the other Titans. He then also steals Fire from the Titans to give to his Children. So i my theory is that somehow a group of Space Jockeys/Engineers set off and created Mankind and left clues of where he came from. He created us maybe without the knowledge of the other Space Jockeys. Thus the Space Jockeys may be a little suprised when we turn up and think who are they, or how did they find us. The Map room shows a Hologram of Earth so maybe they knew about us, or not. Again maybe instead or aswell, we come across their temples and maybe the remainder of their race are dorment. But they are awoken when they find we are up to no good and messing about with their secrets to create life and even stealing some. But then how do we explain the one Jockey that is dead and has his head cut off, who did that? Another Space Jockey?, the crew of Prometheus. And whats with that Alien looking Murial? There are so many posibilities. And we may be close or not even close, i guess its not long to wait. Whats also interesting is a few people online claim to have seen things from the set, but they could be just talking BS. One report is that there are Aliens or Simular in this movie that are killing the Jockeys. Another is that there is a Alien lifeform in this movie that is larger than the Xenos. The one thing the Production Team said was the crew of Prometheus set out to find mankind origins but come across a Race of Bio Mechanical Killers which implies a not friendly race... but is that Space Jockeys or Alien Organism?

My theory is that the big, round spaceship seem at the beginning of one trailer is an Engineer vessel seeding one of several planets in the distant past. The space jockeys are just one of the species seeded on some far flung habitable planet that evolved faster than us and went to meet their benefactor/creators, the Engineers, on this planet. The Engineers share some of their technology with the Space Jockey race but not where the other seeded planets are located. The Engineers are betrayed and murdered by the Space Jockey race who steal their technology and decide to eliminate the other species because that's what they do. At this point in the movie, I don't think the Space Jockeys know where earth or any of the other seeded planets are located. The universe is a large place and the Space Jockeys haven't become aware of where any of the seeded planets are located. But I think the Space Jockeys would look at these evolving species as competitors that need to be eliminated. Anyway, that's my theory. That and $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee.

Why does the last pic tell me that this is going to be Theron at the very end of the film as the only survivor telling the company "No, nothing strange happened during the expidition. When we got back to Earth, I noticed I was the only one in a cryo-tubes I don't know where the others went. They just disappeared."

@clovenberg: i got the ALIEN photo book at a comic book convention here in Lost Angeles back in the late 1980s. you can now find the book online it's well worth it, the book basically a frame-by-frame representation to ALIEN

All I can say is Sir Ridley Scott and company have a great task ahead of them. I just hope they'll deliver far more than what has been shown.

Well there are many posibilities. The thing is we only see the one temple, and that statue of a face looks human, but so does that pale guy in the scene with the water fall with the "a King has his reign" Now the Blue Man who we see activate the Pilot Chair to rise up and then walk over to it, does look like a 9ft odd Human in a Tight Organic Looking Biker Suit, he is bald and pale and could indeed look like the guy from the water fall scene and the Statue effigy. Now we also see in some clips and pictures two Space Jockey suits with masks on, apearing as if they are hanging on the wall. And another scene where the crew come across a SJ body (looks simular to Blue Mans suit) with no head and the apear to be examining the head and i bet take the head back to Prometheus. So there are more than one instance of seeing the Space Jockey Suit. I would thus think the Space Jockey are a race of large Humaniods whos technology is all bio mechanical based.

It's a very interesting theory. Taking into consideration that time-travel will have a place in this film. What I'm getting at is perhaps that the Alien universe does not evolve around the Earth we know. In fact, it could very well be Earth in an alternate universe. Also, in regards to the big UFO, maybe another Earth was wiped out and one of the Engineers did not like what he saw decided to break away from his group and use the DNA experiment to seed our present-day Earth. There are several ways to interpret what happened, but I feel any and all theories play into what we will see this summer.

Yes... I had another topic on that very graphic awhile ago. That is also very curious in that there appears to be 5 other very large rounded chambers in addition to the central one... and I have seen posts of others saying they see 5 Silos/Temples! I get what you're saying TheNextLV426, but to me, as a way to look at things, what you're saying - it's a bit too human......This alien race we refer to as the SpaceJockies is just that, alien...there is no way to conceive how another sentient race would relate to our species or any for that matter. The horror of the truly alien in this universe is what ultimately makes possible alien contact truly terrifying and I mean that implicitely... Would they understand empathy? Would they tolerate attempts at communication? Would they even give us the chance to say anything? Or would they be merciless, cold, indifferent beings regarding our species as little more than hairless ape-like ants that've grown far too big and self-important for our britches? Even if they did 'create' us...what makes us little more than the overly rambuncious children of experiments that went a hell of a lot farther than even they anticipated. Our technilogical aptitude in landing on their planet could be enough to make them go..okay...let's fix our mistake. No one...NO ONE can think to look into the eyes of a being as alien to us as we are to microbes and honestly contemplate what if any significance we would have to them.... Lastly, look at this way, if we were, to the SpaceJockies, little more than hairless ape-like ants...and they suddenly discovered us running around their home, getting into things we have no business getting into, taking what isn't ours the way ants scavenge food from a kitchen, would they not step on us as quickly as we do ants? And would they not step out into their intergalctic backyard, searching for our place of origin, our ant hill in the grass, our little blue marble we call home...that we call Earth? Would they not try to wipe us out at that source the way any of us would destroy that ant hill sending dozens of explorers to invade and discover the wonders of our home; then, perhaps, sending hundreds more to reap the rewards of what they've discovered?

I agree with you, although the chair is big, it could be made appear even bigger in the movie. And the ship hologram seen in one of the trailers seems to confirm that the two doorways at the sides lead towards the prongs (going through additional chambers). Maybe it's not about wiping us out. They might have some other problem on a scale they'd actually care about, and humans are a convenient element of the solution. We just need a little...modification to get the job done.

Well a lot would depend on if the Space Jockeys know about us Prior to us landing on their door step, and by that i mean what ever Jockeys are left and not maybe ones who was around from thousands of years ago. As far as overkill well thats the common theme with Gods and the Wrath they unleash in most of our civilisations. Maybe the Space Jockeys years ago was a race who had factions, maybe some of them was exiled by the rest of them and these exileded Space Jockeys seeded Earth, without the others permision or knowledge. My hunch is as we become advanced and discover where to find the Jockeys, maybe something we do alerts the Jockeys that our Race has become one that thinks they are Gods or one that would want to be as powerfull as Gods, they find out the Greed of some of the crew. Maybe because we tamper with their secrets we find or try and steal them. The Jockeys could go and wipe out all Prometheus Crew but then back home, potentially we could send out a rescue mission to find out what happened? Maybe the Prometheus has sent back a message of what they discovered. End of the day the Space Jockeys know we can travel space and that there would be other missions we would send out and the Jockeys realise that Mankind would pose a threat to them and maybe other Worlds in the Galaxy and decide to pull the plug.

I don't think the face has changed. The lower lip looks like teeth only because of the way it is being hit by light. The eyes are also just as open as they had been in other shots. In terms of the other find, very interesting. I'm willing to bet the temples are a docking station. The alien ship could land itself around it and lock into place or something.

So let me get this down in layman's terms... Engineers in their UFO seed life on Earth (and other planets) instructing their "Children" to visit said star system. Where a temple awaits them... Why? Whats the purpose? Anyways, before we get there the Space Jockey "Children" show up, and they're BAD ASS and lay in wait for the other "Children" such as us, find out where we come from and intend to colonize our home. Why wait, they already have Earth in their star maps? I like the idea, but there's too many holes. That said I do believe you have touched upon the point that plagues us all, who does the UFO belong to and what is their relationship to the Space Jockey's are they enemies, allies are the UFO guys the gods or the Space Jockey's. I think we are all getting caught up in semantics about the Derelict and its links to Alien when we really should be looking at that big UFO, I think that is part of the puzzle we are all overlooking.

I think the Engineers created the race of Space Jockeys. The Space Jockeys came to meet their creators, the Engineers, and decided to wipe them out because they are just plain bad asses. Some "children" are born normal and nice but grow up to be evil. They evolved into an intelligent species but evil at the same time. And they want to wipe us out because, they are just bad asses and need to expand their territory. After they have knocked us off, they have a ready made planet with all kinds of "new" technology already. And I head they have a weakness for Orange Crush.

Well, we can pretty much see how large it really is simpy in relation to the diameter of the turntable directly at that point. That chair is HUGE and does appear to be designed for something that would indeed be 12 plus feet in height. I also think that rear position is the actual flight control area and is directly at the BACK of the round chamber. The 3 "slits" in the exterior would be directly ahead of the turntable on the opposite side. I also would that the two hallway/corridor openings to be leading into the outstretched boom "arms/legs".

I would hope so, this is the most anticipated film of the summer, a sleeper hit. I can not wait to see the film and the things that were created, from Creature designs to the sets....will inspire me for my Graphics Class...I need some inspiration.

The scale is quite large, its hard to gauge it compared to David as he is in the back ground. When i started to see these trailers i concluded that the Space Jockeys are large humaniods who must stand about 9-10ft tall. The Empire article did say they was 9ft and some of the Production staff on the original 1979 Alien said that Space Jockey was 15ft. But when i did some calculating i estimated he was about 12ft and the one in the chair in this movie about 9-10ft if the Chair is same size as the one in Alien. So it would sugest the Jockey are large, remember Mankind averages between 5ft-7ft anyone under or over that is usually considered to have a Growth defect. So maybe Space Jockeys also vary between 8-12ft in height? As for what that chair at the side is used for and who sits in it, well again i would say a Space Jockey but for what purpose and if we see it used in this movie is another matter we may never find out about.

I wonder if Heavy Metal is going to do "Prometheus" as well, then they could release and "Alien" and "Prometheus" together, also I like to see a book released of Ron Cobb's work for the Alien series....

Hmmm...Ive had Windows 7 since it released almost, and Ive never been able to view GIFs like I could in older versions of windows. I cant understand how you were able to view them last week! I might look into it.

Perhaps other children are not considered a threat until they discover faster than light travel. At which point the Meanies want to wipe out the competitors so they don't have to share potential life capable planets.
